Fatal attack at Wedge this morning according to the radio. Details very thin on the ground at present.

Lead up to the new moon early high tide. Same conditions a month ago when there was two incidents in the same morning up there.
That's winter Mulloway water, mullet running, tailor and mully's feeding on the mullet, the water even smells fishy.
I got out of smoking 4ft rights cos it felt sketchy.

Red thumbs WTF

I was just trying to highlight the sort of conditions that we need to be aware of if we wish to spend time in the water. On this same day of the last moon phase a mate and I paddled in from the break this poor guy was taken at because the conditions just felt so damn suss. Two of us out and 4ft and smoking, felt like a bit of a pirf paddling in but was seriously spooked.

Less than an hour later two mates were chased into the beach by a "10-12+ foot noah" at the break that Suba was surfing this morning. I usually surf this stretch of coast a couple of days each week and I have NEVER seen as many sharks as I have in the last couple of years.

Baitfish, feeding dolphins and a fishy smell (not off fishy but like a freshly filletted whiting or herring) to the water or oilslicks on the waters surface should set your internal alarm bells ringing.

Perhaps look into moon phases and their effects on fish too....
