On the news last night: A father and son were diving at 3 mile out from Ocean Reef Mariner yesterday and were hassled by a 3M Great White. They said that it hung around for a while and they had to hide under a ledge and wait for it to leave, they surfaces with 5 minutes of air left.

They are certainly friendly this year!

The father and son are from up at Caramar and are neighbours of my sister and brother inlaw, the young kid says will not go diving again. I feel the same as him ATM. They are pesky.

Dunno but I paddled between two waves and thinking about it now it wasn't a great idea.
It stayed deep and was moving slow, the water was so clear.

I'm stunned that they were surprised to see one considering they were in open ocean 3km out to sea. I'd be surprised if I didn't see one at the moment in WA. Good thing it wasn't hungry!

It's the one you don't see you should be worried about.
But saying that if you dive and your scared/worried about sharks you probably should pick another pastime...

Where we were surfing the bank was really shallow and defined, you could have walked to the end of the bank to have a look if you really wanted

It wasnt really doing anything, it might have been sick.

I thought this time last year they had nearly all nicked off apart from the ones in Cockburn Sound and Warnbro Sound.

I heard a 3.5 white was tagged in south aus and it was tracked along the ningaloo reef then a lap around the muirion Islands then 2 laps around barrow before it went up beadon creek in onslow then took off for south africa.
Doesn't look like you are safe anywhere

This was Saturday arvo...

SURFERS were cleared from a popular beach near Margaret River yesterday afternoon after reports of a three-metre shark 100m off the coast.

The shark was sighted at the 'Lefthanders' surf break in Ellensbrook by a crew on board the Department of Environment and Conservation chopper just before 3pm

Several surfers were cleared from the water.

The DEC chopper did a second sweep of the area an hour later but failed to locate the shark.
