I was thinking that it would be great if the surfing and Longboarding forums were more active and was wondering what you guys thought?

I'd like to see alot more of those of you who read our forums and choose not to post actually share your ideas and thoughts. For example look at the "read" column vs number of "posts" in each topic.

Im inviting you all to voice your thoughts or opinions of ways to expand the surfing forums on Seabreeze.
Or if you think that something is not working please stand up and be heard.
We're all friends here and I'd like some constructive criticism or ways to improve in 2010.

I think that most people just "read" the threads and not comment, in shortboards I recon about 5-10 people post stuff.
In longboards about two people are using it. (Joking)

I used to read these threads alot before posting, I think I was a bit intimidated after reading alot of the posts and I think that people still are, as we have seen some of the members like to berate or pick on people. I know I was when I first started to post.

Funny tho, as Ive started to get a lot of people PMing me regarding lots of different stuff and I think thats great, some Ive never seen post anything in a thread.

Im not sure how you would go about attracting people to these types of forums as they are faily specific. I check shortboards on a daily basis and general all the time.
I think having an email service to tell you that some one has commented on a thread could work altho that would get out of control and be a bit messy.

Always thinkin Kearnsy, I think we should get Goldie trip off the ground, the more I think about it the better it sounds (in my head anyway )

Personally I think we should still have the 2 forums. It took some work to get the long boarding forum up and going, its here now and is some what operational.

Can I suggest that all people are welcome to post in either forum!!!

Doggie , I am also guilty of be-littling . This has'nt happened for sometime and I appolagise to who ever it was and it wont happen again....

I have a couple of suggestions:

I think we could have a Welcome thread where new users can introduce themselves and be welcomed by existing members . Its allways interesting to hear what other new surfers are up to in different parts of the country ?

More specific topics looking at technique ect ?

Less chitty chat and stay on topic???- we could start a chat thread for this?

Thats just a couple of Ideas I came up with quickly... Anyone else?

I think the fact its seperate is a good thing, windsurfing has multiple forums for different states ect, also what relates to short is not the same as long in most cases altho I do look though longboarding on the every now and then, mainly cos I miss mac

Back to what Kearnsy said re read-post ratio, my thread on the Ments has over 9000 reads and only just over 250 posts. Thats fairly lop-sided in my mind altho alot of the people did post who havnt posted alot since.
Are people just becoming members to post a few times then forgetting about it??

Also, not so much in the surf threads but in general there are some people (unnamed) who are a bit agressive and that turns some people off as well.

I like to read about tech stuff regarding surfing, Im into motorsport as well as well as being in the automotive industrie in Perth, and just love the tech stuff. CrAzY was always good for that building his own boards ect and it was great to see the pictures of the boards in progress. Pco is the same, all ways great picks and great ideas.

Ohhh that was a long one

People should be able to post in any forum they want with out asking ect.
Mac asked me if he could post his picks in my thread, I was taken back by that and also felt like there was some respect in a strange forum kind of way. But just post if it has relivance to the thread, a quiver is a quiver and interested in anything that people ride even if Im not into it

As far as be-littling people I think we all do it a bit, its happened to me, I got over it after changing my username, I wasnt always doggie. Also new members like Kearnsy said a thread like a welcome thread mite be the way to go or get current members to read the rules of the forums.

Staying on topic, now us shortboards are classic for getting off topic but its our own threads normally from what ive seen. Just dont get started on dolphins mmmm.

We as a collective need to put up topics and mostly good ones go up, bad ones fade away quickly.

Man ive got to do some work

The main surf forum I post on is very eastern state centric. I come here mainly to get local knowledge. I also visit the SUP forum because it interests me to know how they think. Scares the **** out of me too. I don't have much to say on here because there isn't really a big community to interact with (yeah, I realise the irony).

I have to say, the common theme to forums that I post on the most is instant email notification (I'm likely to read the new post and often respond if relevant), no censorship whatsoever (language, personal attacks, sensitive issues) and a large community. Or something that no other forum offers, in which case I'll visit out of necessity (e.g. a special interest, the only forum of its kind).

Re censorship, the only way I'd be likely to get really involved here is if I went into war against the SUP forum and that's not going to happen. It'd be a waste of time on my part and wouldn't change any of their minds anyway. And I'd get banned.

well i`ve been checking this site for a few years now because of work related issues involving the wind because it`s been the most consistent site that i have found wind-wise and being updated regularly, and being addicted to surfing i thought i`d join the surfing forum, i`ve never been involved in a forum before and this is the only one i`m in, and i`m glad i did, i`ve often sat here at 3 or 4 in the morning having a laugh and getting tips, i flick through the kiting, windsurfing, SUPS, land yachting and everything else because i like to see what else is happening, but i don`t post on them because i don`t do that sport and can`t contribute, but i hear where your coming from if there are other surfers or interested people out there that read the surfing forum, longboards, short boards or anything in between why not jump on board, the more the merrier i recon,

Nice job on the topic Kearnsy, but i think supping is also surfing from what i`ve seen
cheers well done mate.

Just to get back on topic for a minute I have just been looking at a few other forums on the net. I think that Legian is onto something when he said that thier mostly based with Eastern States members.
I think we could be onto something by saying that this is the leading WA surf forum.
I'd love to have some of the crew from down SOuth bringing some topics up for discussion. It could be time to spread the word!

Mac- just a quick question mate. I know that you have used other sites in the past, why , and what was it that had Seabreeze stand out from the rest and have you come back after a break from here? Im just interested because ur based over east.

No other forums Kearnsy, I did look at THE ZONE site based in the USA. Man they are way too serious for me.
I introduced a good friend to another who (did) own SUP store and he ended up buying one which I had a couple of goes on.Now this mate of mine informed me about seabreeze,so I logged on in the sup section and asked questions on equipment and ended up buying one. I was totally bored at the time, and enjoyed the chat, rants in that section but once again they are becoming too serious at times. Hell we all work hard, how about a little fun from time to time.No I have not returned from a break.
To cut to the mustard,I just enjoy talking with like for like people and find 99% are all great folk. I enjoy reading and viewing other peoples stories and the knowledge that is shared is fantastic. Where else can you ask a question on anything and receive great advice from people who have bin there done that. mac

Oh it helps with my keyboard skills

No, realsurf. ASL and Tracks were kind of dead when I was looking around for surf forums a few years ago. Oh, and I also do a lot of reading of swaylocks and occasionally I'll visit surfermag for a U.S. perspective.

No censorship is cool, but you've gotta have a thick skin and be aware when you're being drawn in to arguments and be conscious of what you're posting. I.e. you've gotta self-censor at times. E.g. a good example is the current "girly booger" thread on realsurf. If you know the characters it's quite entertaining.

Nick Carroll's also a good drawcard to realsurf (and ASL and maybe Tracks apparently). Good to have someone as knowledgeable as him around.

Main reason I'd come here is to update on what's happening locally. E.g. "scabs banks have broken" or "banks at 4wd-spot-just-north-of-Perth are good and beach track is good" (soon to be redundant). Or "metro location x is good lately". But that's not going to happen because who wants to invite crowds to their spot? I'm a competitive, aggressive prick and you don't want me around your spot. And I surf alone so even though I'll spoil your surf there's only one of me. What about when a carload of boogers or a couple of SUPs read inside info and turn up?

Agree with the ASL & Tracks comment they are quiet and very often there is a lot of in fighting going on ASL especially.
