That puts a downer on the enjoyment factor...

I hope you're back out there again someday, Unknown Surfer.

I was there, watching from the northern lookout. I witnessed the attack. I am still in shock and my heart g'os out to the surfer and his family. It needs to be said that there are some super brave awesome individuals in that crew, as we watched helpless from the shore at least two surfers turned back and assisted the injured surfer putting themselves at massive risk, taking at least 10 minutes to get in with the injured surfer, they stayed with him and bought him into the beach with the assistance of some others who paddled out to assist. These people need to be recognised.

Heavy stuff.

Ben is a good bloke and a pretty decent surfer. Thoughts are with him and his family.

They dumped the dead shark at sea. You cant have the shark decomposing and have body parts washing up on the beach.

As if they didn't inspect the insides before dumping.

Question...Are there still drum lines present at the moment or have they stopped with the fishing? That would probably be the biggest clue if they did catch the correct shark.

Perhaps you can ask them.

Great respect to those that helped Ben. These actions give me faith in Humans. Wish him a speedy recovery and dearly hope that he returns to the surf as soon as he is able, as tough as that will be.

But you also cant bring in the shark as its body/jaws will then provide evidence they just killed a random shark, not the actual attacker. Same as they did in Esperance..

Once again its what fisheries are not saying that is providing the detail.. Also the fact they have kept the beach closed and are still patrolling the area..

Such a waist, marine biologist are screaming for any opportunity to study these animals. Why just dump it at sea, to the advantage of no one other than Barnet and his coverups..

When Hawaii culled 4500 sharks the best part was the science that was retrieved from the studies completed.

This thread is about some poor bugger who lost half his leg.
Can we please have a little respect and save the pro/anti-shark comments to a later date, preferably on another thread?
Thanks

VERY WELL SAID.

This poor bugger is far from out of the woods yet, and some of the behavior and comments online and on social media have been absolutely appalling.

RIP Ben

Thoughts and prayers to his family

I remember Ben and his mate Zac skipping school at 14 with hair down to his behind and just starting to get confident in his surfing. Had some great days midweek sharing some waves just with a few of us.

By 17 he was amazing in the water. When our little right hander would turn on it was a joy to watch him repeatly blow his fins out the back.

Hard to believe someone so full of life and also someone who had it so together is gone.

I am a long way from home at the moment but my thoughts are with all his mates, his family and his unborn child.

This will hurt those who risked their lives to try and save him. There will be a lot of second guessing of what they could have done better and some insidious guilt felt by those lads. If anyone knows them, rally around them.

Such a ****ing 5hitty outcome
