get some tape or chalk and trace your board out on the floor in your house, every night do some steps up and down and you will have it in no time.

Big Spazz's idea is good also you can practice on a log, just walk along the log and back, the ones like a light pole they use for fences in carparks are good.

Another idea is practice on a Longboard skatie

chrispy, this didn't work too well for me but it did help a little, I certainly will at lest try to xstep occasionally.

That doesn't mean it won't work for you if you can make one.

All it is is the foam from the inside of one of those 4 inch thick foam mattresses, I found it on the side of the road in a pile of rubbish and for years I used it as a car door protector on the wall of the garage.

One day I managed to get my hands on a 3/4 inch thick plank around 7 ft long and 11.5 inches wide.

I took the material covering off the mattress, roughly cut it lengthways about 18 inches wide, then attached it to the bottom of the plank with a few 1/2 inch wood screws

Basically, what I was looking for was just a narrow area that forced me to make sure my feet always stayed along the centre line, and an unstable platform that forced me to concentrate on my balance.

Depending on how big your steps are, it can be 3 to 5 steps from one end to the other. The faster you go, the more difficult it becomes and the more you must concentrate to keep balanced and stepping in a straight line.

I learnt on those big see saws they used to have in all the parks...dont see em any more...big trick is to practice on something thats moving...we used to see who could run up the see saw the most before back stepping...getting a pendalum thing going...if you didnt get it right it could get very painfull, certainly taught me how to cross step up and back though

Try it on a narrow beam up and back chrispy and keep at it in the surf. You 'll pick it up.

interesting. we were practising buoy kick turns on the race 666's the other day and kelly showed us how to do it with a two step method- one small , one big one to get the foot over the tail pad.

but there is a trick to do before you start- made it so easy to step back neatly. i had never thought about it or been shown.

cheers

Whats the difference between cross stepping or shuffling? If it ain't detrimental while surfing how can it be a bad habit?

Speaking of bad habits, any tips on removing creases from wetsuits? After being crumpled in a bucket during a drive home from work, I now have a crease around the groin region resembling a massive camel toe
