G'day guys. I have this board in two bits sitting in my garage. Board was only 3 months old when I snapped it in two. So I'm offering it to anyone willing and able to fix it.

Whoops ?

Talking of repairs , hit a rock just under the surface on the weekend pushing the FCS plug up into the board , was p ssed thinking I had scratched the fin until I got back to the car and took the fin off . Anyone had a crack at a home repair on similar , am tempted to handball this one straight to the repair shop .

Fin plugs are a piece of piss...I would be hitting you tube and then saving myself 50 bucks....how did you snap a bamboo laminate? I would be contacting the supplier and asking for a refund

would be tempted to sell the board chrispy but its only 3 months old .Are some nice boards out there though

question is I could pull the plug out and patch the hole but would it need more reinforcement ? , Fair amount of pressure on the plugs from water pressure on the fins ?

Will check out you tube thanks Tux

Would love to here the story behind how that board was snapped

You can rout the plug and put a new one in but I usually try to get it level by lifting it sand back and the use a syring to get resin in around it...then sand back and put some extra glass over the top....seems to work OK for me

Thanks Vanders !

Wish I had seen this earlier. I drive past his place on the way to work as well!

If you want to move it on I am happy to oblige - the only downside is I am away at the moment and will not be home until early Sept so would not be able to pick it up till then.

Sooo, not sure where else to put this...

A really big thanks to lex123 - it was nice to meet you, and my little 12yo grom is super excited about getting his own longboard!
(possibly...if dad can patch it back together).

I have stripped off the delamed glass & bamboo back to solid stuff, and had a bit of time this weekend to make a bit of a rocker-bed and start sticking her back togther. I'm following advice from 'the boardlady' and am uisng some expanding foam. The first time I have done this process, so am unsure how it will turn out!

I'm also trying to find some replacement bamboo to repair the deck - has anyone had luck in finding 0.6mm bamboo veneer before?

I'll post some further piccies as it continues along.

I've been away for a few weeks but am now making slow progress with this one -> my grom is perstring me to have it ready for school holidays!

Gaps in the join filled with expanding foam:

Foam cut back & sanded (a second layer was done after this shot to fil the air bubble holes:

A bit of the surrounding glass & bamboo has been ground back to give the first layer of my glass repair something to grip:

I hope to get to the glassing this week. First will be a simple patch of 4oz over the exposed foam bits, which will hopefully allow it to hold its shape and I can release her from the rocker table.

Then I'll do 2 big diamond shapes on each side to spread the load - hopefully this should stop it breaking along the line of the new glass again.
I decided that its too hard to try and replace the bamboo so hopefully the three layers of glass will do the trick...its stupidly light as it is, so a little more weight should not harm it too much!

Only time will tell!!

Was thinking along the lines of the Cobra...did you put any dowells into the broken pieces ??

It's no wonder they snap when you look at the air bubbles in the original foam

Nah, no dowels. It is a stringerless, so dowelling was limited in helping to line the pieces up, and I was a bit wary of adding too much stiffness in the middle of what is a pretty flexy board.

I've repaired with n without dowel. The extra dowel encourages a new break further up or down the board due to the inconsistent flex created IMO. It is rare for a board to snap in the same place if glue up down reasonably. This is a fun project to watch progressing damo, thanks.

Just a quick update.

Glassing is complete - two 6oz patches & one 4oz on each side. All done in a slightly diamond shaped pattern to hopefully stop the board re-breaking along the edge of the new glass.

Just a bit of sanding, and then some paint to pretty her up and we might be able to get in the water.

Final update - LOTS & LOTS of sanding to get it flat, a bit of paint, and she is finally ready to!
The repair has definitley added some weight, but as this thing was so light to start with it stil feels lighter than what a standard PU log does. Should be interesting to see how it surfs.

The new owner is very excited, we plan to test her out tomorrow.

Again, a massive thanks to Lex123.
