Pity this stuff is so brittle, it could make an interesting blank material.

At that kind of compressive strength, foot dents would be a thing of the past but there would never be any reactive flex.

Maybe not so much, I got interested and did a google search, turns out a 10 year old kid made some as a school project.

Can you imagine how cool it would look with a perfectly clear glass job over a blank that looks like blue frozen smoke?

How much flex is due to the core vs the laminate?

The thing I'd be worried about is that they say it is extremely strong for its weight. Seeing it weighs practically nothing, does that mean it is really weak in absolute terms? Say compared to polystyrene?

Considering how easily the guy in the vid snapped a piece of it, I'd have to say yes, it does look weaker than foam in absolute terms.

hmmm interesting.......perhaps you could have a honeycomb strong lightweight material and in the honeycomb you could fill it with the aerogel and then glass it. Strength would be achieved in this instance.
