Same problem on my Naish.
Tried wire brush etc didn't notice any difference on grip. still slippery.
Found if I just rub a couple of hand fulls of beach sand on the grip before I go out each time. no problems.
Don't know why but it works

Hey Siny,

If your having trouble with any grip give it a thorough was down with detergent and remove any wax etc. Go to bunnings or Mitre 10 or home hardware and get Anti Skid in a can about $13.95 and spray the grip. While your at it spray the area at the end of the grip to so you dont slip of the nose.

I have used it on PSH, Starboard, Naish, GSI and no name brand grips and so far it has not caused any issues with the board or the grip.

Be aware that different versions of antiskid have different chemicals so try a small area first to see if there is a reation before you do the whole grip or board. If your happy with the result and you are sure there wont be an adverse reaction then do the rest.

Hey Siny, gidday.
Not sure of the naishes grip but had the slippery grip problem on my col grip after 3 months.
Tried the back yard remedys wire brush, sand paper anti skid (lazy $30) & no resolve.
The ezie fix for me was rip it off and WAX. No looking back.

Just out of interest....

For those that have developed slippery' deck grip, as opposed to being slippery from the start.

Do you keep your board in a board bag?

I am interested because I have tried and sold most of these grips over a few years - OAM, CofL, PSH and I have never found or had feedback (directly) of them being slippery.

I don't keep any of my boards in bags and I am wondering if that is a factor?

My Money is on the PSH grip, nice deep grooves, doesn't hold much water and easy to apply.

Have't tired the OAM how does it compare???

Not sure Scotty. I dont use bags and and have never had problems with any of the grips we use CofL, PSH) being slippery.

I am just wondering if certain conditions can make them slippery?

If its a new board, my naish was the same when I got it. Get a can of SureTred (about $13) from bunnings and spray 2 coats over the whole grip. I did this once about 7 months ago and haven't had a problem since. (I wouldn't recommend trying to replace the grip unless you find nothing else works - the factory gripped boards are glued on pretty good, and take forever to remove and you risk damaging the board underneath as well.)

Cheers, Ali

Bit ridiculous to spend $1500 or whatever dollars on a new board and then have to go off and spray the grip with some cra@ppy chemical-surely those Chinese blokes can get their grip sorted......

AA, I am assuming the PSH grip is the same as I have bought, it is good quality grip, glues well and lasts well.

But the straight grooves pattern is not a grippy as he OAM machined squares.

Hey its not life or death but when you on a small board, every bit of grip counts.

By my experience, IMO I would give :

PSH 7/10.

OAM 9/10.

Creatures 8/10 (target and ramps a waste)

Naish and Starboard 2/10

Is that based on all the starboards you've owned?? Do you give caster sugar in resin 10/10 for grip?

Jimmy Lewis is real good nice kicker too

ultimate traction best though, looks real good at half the weight and doesn't melt like wax.

I add light wax to my Mana deck pad. Doing it light, improves grip a lot, without making a mess. You can't even see that it has been waxed, but it does make a difference. Sand doesn't stick, so its a nice solution.

There are two different types of white Naish deck pads. The ones coming from Thailand built boards have better grip, so you don't need wax on those. My Mana came from China.

OAM grip is 'grippy'and you get a swag of it - you wont use it all on a shorter board.

I am not arguing which is better, because it always boils down to personal preference.
But I would not call the other two we sell (PSH, CofL) 'slippery' (which is kind of how I got drawn into this)

What sets OAM apart IMO is the Arch bar running from the tail block.
You pay for this though - RR$220

We stock all 3 brands

Wax a deck grip - are you serious?

I use both OAM on my wave board and Balin on my DW board. Both are great and work as expected without having to do anything to them (which is the whole point, isn't it?).

i have both Creatures grip and PSH grip of AA i use both reguraly i have found that the creatures is a great grip but its hot and cold i dont no why, but sometimes its slippy not often but sometimes i do keep it in a board bag.
and for the psh grip well its really grippy its actually gripier than the creatures but its slightly heavier than the creatures grip. But if you were just after a super grippy grip its good stuff . I have actualy cut it up into small bits and randomly stuck them over the deck not sure if this makes it more grippy?
and my mate has the OMA thats a little heavy to and i dont like the big arch bar down the tail at all but hey thats just me

Clean them with fresh water after every surf, mine arnt as big as your full deck grips but mine are always grippy, salt water leaves a slipery film if you dont wash it off. Hope that helps

Oh yea chuck some wax on them wher you stand, that works well.

All the C4 ProTrac (2-piece) & ESP (7-piece) grips have an arch bar and yes the tailpads can be purchased seperately as well.
