Off Facebook...

Looking forward with a clean canvas with something smik under my feet.
It's with great trepidation that I post my first pic on my first samples of some boards I've been working on.
It's been an amazing ride with Svein Rasmussen and Starboard for the last 19 years or so, for which I will be eternally greatful. As well to Neil Sheltema at Windtech previously to that, Mick Manolas at Performance Surfboards before that and the late great Greg Laurenson who shaped my first custom boards. And Everyone else that has culminated into making SMIK a reality.
Scary and exciting all at the same time. Here's goes nothing.

Interesting, an iconic member of the brand with an insanely high number of models creating a brand with only 2 models. Could this be a trend towards the simplification of the lines? (yes, I know, it is normal for a new brand to start with only a few models).

Also, the web site clearly stresses the Australian roots of the brand... does this means the boards will be shipped from the Canaries, or Smirk will create a plant in Australia?

Anyways, it is nice to see that Scott didn't use the same marketing photoshop-heavy culture than *board... you are greeted on the website frontpage header image with a board with huge rail paint chips :-) The honesty is quite refreshing...

Interesting move from Scotty to leave Starboard and go out on his own! Good on him. The SUP market is fully saturated so it will interesting to see how the SMIK range develops. I hope he keeps wavesailing though as I'd miss seeing that "SMIK" gougey cutback that is his trademark!

Should be seeing plenty of these around Perth already.

Pretty excited to see what is landing in about 6 weeks time given the prototypes we have already seen.

hey DJ
this is what I've been up to
spending more time at home
which is why i had to make some changes as my house in margs had become like a holiday home I didn't get to visit that much.
It was a huge decision but one that felt right ,like at any point of change in life I've experienced. It all just evolved.
Myself and Sveiny at Starboard are still very much on good terms and i'll be helping out on a couple of boards in their range still
@ colas. Nah. that's sun reflection and not a rail ding.
The one thing that gave me courage and conviction to move forward was when I visited IQC and saw their process's, which are quite unique.
Shapes remaining accurate and Paint and overall Durability very tough while still a good weight. (Full PVC wrap /Full Carbon) on the spitfire and longboards.

Still waiting to get all first samples together but plan to start a coastal cruise around oz surfing and demoing, starting off at the saucy Jack.

Good luck with your own board venture.. and hope to see you in Melbourne one day.. (and also Merimbula).

You have left some big shoes to fill at Starboard.

The boards look really nice, so far Scotty. I would like to slip one of my 9" clear flexis in the 10 footer and have a go. Any demos coming to Gero this summer?
