6 knots nuffy!!

Stupid speed in the creek.

And that is the safe run, at least on the way out they can see most of what is going on. The way back in is what worries me. Surfers popping up after duck diving and the boaties having no chance of seeing them from the other side of the wave.

I've not boated there and haven't actually been their myself so not aware of how it works.

What is the speed limit? Is their one for the creek and one for the crossing also? I can see that is a very bad situation but i can also see the bigger problem of who has right of way to the resource?

Is their another way out and this is just a short cut?

Coming back in as was said, you would have no chance of seeing anyone in the water, especially at lower speeds of the plain and the nose sitting up high..

I see it a little like, when i turn up to a surf spot and beach fisherman have burley through the water, baits and are fully setup. Now obviously safety is more important so for me in the water i guess they should have to stop, BUT why do i get precedence over the beach than anyone else..?

Its a bit of a moral dilemma..

Not sure what can be done about the boats going through the surf zone but there is no excuse for speeding through the creek.
When I was over there I was amazed at how many people were swimming, paddling etc there, it is such a great spot.

How close is the next boat ramp or entry to the ocean?

6 knots zone inside the Creek and Mouth. Once they are at the end of the rock wall they have an open limit thru the surf zone.

when i did my licence you had to do 6 knots around people full stop. has that change? or surfers don't count.



its a sticky problem. boats have to go when they get a break in the surf

Well yeah its 6 knots with in a particular distance from people in the water..(I should know but i don't) I think its like 50 meters

obviously those fish guys got up and got there ahead of you
if you were already surfing when they got there they wouldn't have even started fishing

Surprissed nobody was killed over the holidays; saw a lot of close calls!
Personally i think the boats should run around the rock wall and follow the natural flow (pic) and then head out around palmy. Or even better, launch and go out at talley!
I still dont understand why the lifeguards dont report close incidents to the water police. I know the marine rescue tower doesnt give a toss about swimmers or surfers. There quite happy with there 1 in 8000 deaths/injurys with crossings! ("there own fault for being out there")
I know ill be taking legal action on either if i get clipped out there!!!

life guards don't want anyone swimming there, but they can't stop them short of shooting them


place is a nightmare for the life guards in certain conditions on a out going tide. possibly the most dangerous place to swim on the gold coast.

when i did my licence it was 60m from swimmers at low speed.
technically do you class swimmers in the same light as people on ski's boards or SUP's
and if they are, tow surfers are breaking the law all the time.
i think a PWC licence for a Jet ski is 200m from swimmers,as i said i think.

A little known fact, is that you can (well in WA anyway not sure about other states) report an boating safety incident. Their is a form on the site that you can down load and then i guess you need a witness or two. If anyone was to handle a boat dangerously, than you just send that in and they have to report and follow it up. It may result in a lesson for the skipper, as in a better explanation of how the system is meant to work. Remember that many boat owners haven't had the luxury of seeing it from the water angle..

I guess the problem seems to be their, that even the Officials don't seem to have a clear cut solution..A horn would be great..

Maybe surfers could be made to were Hi Vis vests
