Yesterday "Shark Tracker" showed this alert at my local
Yup... all those pings by tagged Great Whites in 2 days... along 20 miles of beach
Plus 1 "attack"





It was my friend and fellow Breezer Mr. Big
He was not bitten, but said it felt like he was hit by a truck.
His leg was injured by the board impact, but other than that... a good story.
Probably surfing right now

Wow! Was he standing on the board or sitting on it? I have always hoped that sharks are less likely to attack if you are standing on the board - less human flavor in the water.

said he was paddling out, transitioning from prone to standing when it hit
no info on whether he fell in, how quickly he got back on board, and how he got in to shore after the hit

as creek says, cape cod is no joke shark-wise--at times there can be 10's of thousands of seal on that stretch--a veritable buffet--no shock there are whites patrolling and dining

On a foil board? Isn't the board supposed to be out of the water.

Just like surfing, the amount of time paddling out and waiting / positioning for waves dwarfs the time airborne...

Pretty cool shot of the eyes under my board this morning.

Decals arrived yesterday, with some extra freebies.
First try on a pale coloured board.
Set up some guides to try and get them straight.
Not as stressful as applying RSPro.
But worried about stuffing it up.


Ended up with a few small bubbles, but reckon they look good.


Not as confident putting them on a Nalu.
Wanted to avoid the graphics, not sure how they would go on the yellow.
Instructions say to put them on a bit of the board that is going to be in the water, not waving in the air, so didn't want to go too far forward.



Again got a few small bubbles.
Tried to pin prick them, may be an argument for doing the soapy water thing like railsaver.
Think they look even better on the Nalu.


I can see a threatening "mouth" there.
I feel safer already.

This is my take on how they work , sharks like to do a sneak attack they don't take on predators head on like two bears in the woods. The big eyes simply make them shy away. They have been designed by Abalone divers in Tassie where multiple divers have been taken by sharks. They started by putting eyes on the back of their wet suits and it works , so now they have made a sticker for the boards. The foils on my board do look like a stingray , favorite tucker for sharks so I am more than happy to test these out. Check out the full story here... www.sharkeyes.com.au/pages/our-story

I wonder why they chose to represent typical primate eyes, that very few animals have (and the blue irises is even rarer, a very recent human mutation). On their pics we even see that the shark eyes team painted "normal" eyes on their wetsuits (big black discs in white circles), just like the ones all animals use to fool the predators.

I'm pretty sure that Shannon Worrall ( big wave maniac, tube of the year winner, all round west oz nice guy) is the man behind shark eyes. He grew up in Esperance, South East Coast west oz ( start or end of the great Australian bight, depending on which way you are coming from). Read about the story and stories of his team and make up your own mind www.sharkeyes.com ,there would be not too many more experienced crew around that have had the encounters that they have. If this is all it takes to save a possible attack then I think it can only be a good thing. Time will tell.
