So PT Woody and I took delivery of our Starboard SUP POLO paddles and paired it with an appropriate sized ball and hit the river to try it out.

Quick maneuvrability and spins were required and the Astro Stream inflatables with 2" fins served us well.

The paddles with their featured centre hole feels wierd to start with but we soon got the hang of it, in fact returning later to regular paddles felt equally wired, so it's all relative.

Technique felt similar to lacrosse, and there's definitely a learning curve to accurately throwing and catching the ball. Soon we were passing, catching and scooping our way around the river.

It was good fun and we were soon wishing there were others there to start bumping and challenging in a teams environment with defined court area and goals.

Could this be the beginning of a new niche sport?

We're looking a little over dressed in those shots with all the padding and PFDs, but this was just after a 10km white water run. Then again, we may invent a new sport - white water polo.
