Awesome TT! It would be interesting trying to take off with that much wind blowing up the face!

Looks like not being able to duck dive would make a standup session difficult.

Then again if you caught it uncrowded you wouldn't need to go so deep and maybe stay off the rocks.

That first wave was sick and yes that is near perfect for Sup no worries to get back out either just paddle around like a reef break. The way that wave just holds is like Cloud Break in Fiji...Nice post Teatree

Was there in the late 80's such an awesome setup, but not somewhere I would ride a SUP personally - there are some 'intimidating' locals. Bit like rocking up to Honolua Bay on a SUP I would think. Great vid Teatree.

This wave has been on my dream list since seeing it as a kid in surfer mag, you didn't advertise anything.

But I'd never seen it like this, thanks Tea. I found the vid mesmerizing. Gotta be inspiring.

Paddling up the point out the back on a sup would be almost a downwinder.

Please don't advertise Manu Bay as a SUP destination. It is a legendary NZ wave, and the locals will fairly quickly insert your paddle up your ass if you rock up on a SUP and start taking waves/ endangering the lineup.

If you do decide to SUP it, you better be super respectful!

Probably best if you take your shortboard along for a wave at Manu, then head to the Bar or the beach off Wainui Road for a SUP.

I don't believe T was advertising anything, it was a question. Yes looks like a great wave and always has done, will I surf there? probably not. But it will be my choice not yours. I'm so sick of local mentallity, wtf gives people the right to even suggest that if they surf somewhere they will be beat up or in this case have a "paddle inserted in your ass". So much for "family of surfers" or "brothers"

I grew up in Hamilton and spent many a school day out at Raglan. The so called "locals" (many from Hamilton funny enough) were dick heads back then ..seems like it hasn't changed...

The crack up factor was many were pretty average surfers.

If you want to SUP Manu or any of the points go for it I say.. Have fun! The sensitive "locals" might learn something.

Localism has always existed, it existed at Cronulla Point when I was 15 and it exists now at Noosa when I am 59.

So you are a Farking local. Who gives a Farking toss. I bet you have no wave etiquette at all.

Give me a travelling competent surfer who has surfed all sorts of craft over a narrow minded localised pratt any day.

Go for it, pick your wave, pay your dues and go hard.

Nope. If you think about going out there, think about if you can manage the conditions and the crowd properly. If you can, great.

If its out of your league, maybe dont go out there.

My key point is about respect. Respect for the wave and the people surfing the place (locals or not).

Im not saying this is a secret wave. It was on Endless Summer for F u c k s sake! What Im saying is its not a wave for every SUP rider and his dog. If that reality hurts your feelings.... well sorry, you may need to just go and speak to your counsellor about that one.

I am also not saying I am a local at the place and I am going to beat you up for riding a SUP. What I am saying is I surf the place a bit when I visit Raglan, and I'd be a bit cautious about rocking up with me and 5 mates on our SUPs, and dominating things (henceforth my comment about not advertising it as a SUP destination). Most of you know the rules when it comes to etiquette, so hopefully you will not have a problem.

PS I do a heck of a lot of SUP riding in the surf, I think some of you are having a bit of a cry because you think a shortboarder is telling you off. I ride all sorts of different surfcraft, and know each has its time and place.

Stop thinking I am threatening you, and look past the fact I may have shattered your little fantasy.

What we have here is a case of miss communication caused by lack of emotion in the written word.....I think Chris's first sentence came over as a "**** of you pricks that's my wave", when I think he really meant. "**** dude I wouldn't paddle out there if you not gonna own it...and don't bring any kook mates cause the boys will give you arseholes"

You can even SUP out there with your dog if you want

Anyhoo, I think Greg got it right. You have misunderstood.
