I'm guessing this is a hydrofoil board and the paddle has two handles for the top hand. One for when the board is being paddled normally at sea level and an extension on top for when the board is up on the foil.

Damn it looks ugly though, all of it.

Im guessing that it would be fairly stable with that huge foil under there but would it produce a massive amount of drag? Unless it was on a wave it wouldnt work would it?

Thanks DJ, we can rely on you for weird stuff !!

Doggie, yeah I understand it won't work until you're on a wave....

They have been playing with that concept for awhile in Hawaii. The real danger is when you fall. You are not strapped in like with the tow foil boards and when you crash there is a chance of the foil hitting you. I know of one individual that received stitches from the foil when he crashed. Very dangerous.

Seriously Gizzie thanks for rubbing it in. If you are Laird you wake up in the morning and like the rest of us you have a few choices...shall I go for the early before work or just stay in bed....Laird has much bigger problems and choices to deal with...sup, surf, kite, hydrofoil, play volley ball with wife and her mates, design something new....ummmmm or maybe just hang Out for a change. Tough life. Hats off though to him. He deserves it. Absolute legend.

i think that paddle is amazing.i'm thinking races, sprint start- go shorter, then go longer as you settle in and so on

ps wouldn't be that much between the long and short of it as in the photo
cheers

Some great backyard engineering going on there. Very clever on the paddle.I wonder how long it will be before we see paddle in foil boards on big waves....

The mid handle section looks like a finger/hand breaker to me...would like to see it in action though?
