We are fortunate to have Ivan here in Cape Town and he was probably the first to really do downwinders here. We now have a weekly series where we downwind every Wednesday and yesterday we had the biggest field to date with 29 entrants.
The course on the vid is our 10km run from Milnerton to Big Bay, the fastest time to date is set by Chris Bertish in 45min18secs which is 13.3km/h average speed.
As you can see in the vid it's mostly windswell and its probably gusting 35knots +
Ivan really makes that 12'6 go in the stronger winds, when its lighter he jumps on the 14' and it's amazing the speed he can generate.
It would be great to have some you breezers swing by and do a few downwinders with us - at the moment we're averaging 3 a week over 30knots of wind - it's pretty sick!
peterp, it's been pretty slim pickings on the goldie. between what saw on the vid, what your saying and the amount of dw ers the vicco bay crew do' i'm jealous.
another month or two and our 'season' will kick in- can't wait
