Hi all,

In the market for a Camelbak or other hydration system.
I wear a kayakers low profile PFD when paddling so I was looking at 'bum bag' type hydration pack.

I did notice in Melb-DWers-getting-serious www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Stand-Up-Paddle/SUP/Melb-DWers-getting-serious/ that a few guys a wearing standard type packs over their PFDs.
I noticed the awesome conditions too. Lucky buggers.

Does backpack over PFD work OK? If you were buying again today would you still get a back pack or go for bum bag? Any other comments?

Most of the paddling PFDs allow for a camel back. All the main ocean races in Australia now require PFDs so make sure you get a 2 in 1 arrangement.
BTW - It is not (all) my winter fat suit - I have a PFD with drinking bladder under the raceshirt:

Yeah ........but I have a PFD without an allowance for a camel back. Don't really want to buy another. Kayaker (Playboating/Rodeo) PFD are nice because they are very low profile and sit low on the chest.

I think that's Cam you see wearing a hydration pack over the top of a PFD. Tim and I had a PFD containing a satchel for a Camelbak bladder. Much better arrangement.

I also have a Kole Gear hydration pack back - it's the backpack style rather than the hip style, which Kole also makes. That could be your best option though they're not cheap. About $100 iirc.

If I don't wear a PFD I prefer the BumBag style Camalbak.. and our PFD's have a pocket in the back to take a Camelbak bladder.

So for DW and open ocean DW is it a PFD 2 or 3?

And what brands do you have and recommend?

Might be a good bulk purchase if a few people want them???

That's what happens if you're too shy to pee into your wetsuit.
