Help for a young older bloke

Hi guys I am a 53 year old fat bloke with a bad back and I have just discovered the joys of sup! It has got me back on the water after many years, has yet to give me any back pain, is a great workout and I am loving it! The only problems I still have is getting the board on and off the car can still, not always, aggravate my back which can severely shorten my time on the water. I have looked around and found one thing that helps (see the pic) but was wondering if any one has any tips or ideas they have discovered over the years. Cheers to you all.

That's a genius idea with the suction cup! Perhaps even you could consider one of those small blocks of steps if they fit in the boot of the car. At least that way you can get up to roof level? Just an idea :)

And as a Physio I have to throw in the cliche "core strength" haha

Try something like a "racknroll" where you only lift half the weight of the board.
If your handy you can make your own out of a retractable tent pole.

Just had a look at the "racknroll" bilbz and a great idea. Will have a go at whipping something up tomorrow. Cheers

Thanks CarterSUPhysio and I already have some steps in the car but I still find I have to lift and then climb down!

Getcha self a carbon board for starters. So much lighter you'll never have anything else.

yea get a carbon starboard and a fiat ducato maxi van, bung a bed in it slide your boards in and your away, simple.

Back in the 90's I saw a few guys using those roof rack rollers designed for ladders for windsurfers.

You put the nose of the board on the roller with the tail on the ground.
Then lift the tail and roll the board onto the roof.

If you are ready to plunk down around $1000US, depending upon your car setup, (Thule rack system and Hullavator) Thule has the answer to your prayers in the form of the Hullavator. Essentially designed for Kayak loading, the Hullavator can easily be modified for an SUP. I did for my Hobie 12'6x 28.87 by using SUP rack pads wrapped around a pool noodle. I have my Hullavator mounted on a Truck, but from the picks, most any car can work that can mount a Thule rack system. Expensive, but you're back will love it, and so will your MD or Chiropractor. Very easy to elevate, and all your tie down work will be done at waist level.
