UrbnSurfCOASTALWATCH NEwS [/b]Seventy-nine dollars for an hour.[/b]That's the amount that it's looking like it'll cost you for an "Advanced Surf Session" at URBNSURF Melbourne, the new Wavegarden wave pool set to open at Tullamarine this summer.It's just one detail amongst a heap of new info that URBNSURF Melbourne have released about their new pool today - including footage and photos of the wave actually being surfed by a host of pros, as well as opening the door for the public to purchase "Foundation Memberships" for $3500 AUD. This marks the first time surfers from the public can buy a ticket to a proper man made wave pool in Australia, in the post-flowrider era (remember those).The pool is set to open in January 2020, though a specific date for said month is yet to be released.The Foundation Memberships appear to be an annual membership, with perks including four surfs a month, two extra surf sessions a year, an exclusive surf-it first session in December this year, and VIP invites to future events amongst other perks.The other first options detailed for public wave pool consumption (though not yet available to buy) are Gold Memberships for $3100, which seem a similar set-up to the Foundation Memberships (sans VIP events and the pre-opening exclusive session), and the one-time admission ticket of an Advanced Surf Session for $79, which will get you "one hour's worth of perfect waves at the point, choose from either rights or lefts". For context, hiring a squash court for an hour usually costs about $30, and squash isn't surfing (squash is[/i] pretty good though, nothing against squash).Says URBNSURF: "In the coming weeks, we'll be announcing the rest of our memberships, 'multipacks' for surf sessions and group surf lessons, gift cards, and opening up bookings for January 2020 and beyond."[/i]Probably the most exciting revelation relased today, though, is the footage of surfers actually surfing this new wave... which looks... *deep breath* genuinely pretty bloody good!?Below is a 15 second promo clip, that features current World No.11, Victorian Nikki Van Dijk on a slab wave they're calling the beast.To see extended footage of the likes of Luey Hynd, Mitch Crews, Otis Carey, Isabella Nichols, Connor O'Leary, Kai Otton, Xavier Huxtable and more take to a variety of different waves they're pumping out at Tullamarine, you have to head to the URBNSURF website. That variety of wave might be the most interesting development we've seen yet in the wave pool tech space, with the ability to switch up what kind of waves they're pumping out seemingly willy nilly.Read this bit of promo copy from URBNSURF for example:"18 wave types are now being put through their paces, and the crowd favourites for intermediate to advanced surfers are our new pointbreak and Trestles-style turns waves (Giros III to IV) and our bigger, longer barrel settings (Tubos II to V). We've also developed three further Malibu waves, and two Waikiki-style peaks, that are loved by kids and adults who are just starting their surfing journey."[/i]And:"We're also experimenting with two expert waves, a slab (dubbed The Beast) and an air wave (The Ramp's a working title). It's still early days, but we're stoked with how they're developing, and we've enlisted some of Australia's best surfers to help us refine them."[/i]When the pool does open, they're expecting over 2.5 million waves to be surfed each year.URBNSURF Melburne also announced today that they've signed a three-year partnership with Surfing Victoria, which will see them working together on developments like a Surfing Academy, a boardriders club and surf comps.It's a lot to take in - so for now until the gates open in January, let's look at some photos of the thing, and ponder if this is the best wave pool we've seen yet?
