should be about the same as you have it on your short board...... though Im not familiar with how that board surfs? But I would put it just behind the end of the back fin ... should give you enough movement with your back foot as you dont want to put it too far forward and find you cant get your back foot back when u need it

Definitely don't want it near the front fins as it basically renders the back refined part of the board useless.

I have been surfing the 9'0 pro a bit lately with no deck pad and loving the feel of wax all over.

I'm on a SB 7'7" BC and have added a tail and deck pad for two reasons: 1) I like the soft feel; 2) I want the added grip particularly on a smaller board where balance can be more of an issue. Found the tailpad is almost too far back as I rarely step that far back (only on real juicy waves); the bulge in the middle of the tail pad really helps to gauge were you back foot is. . However it is the front pad that is more important to me as I found myself standing far forward to paddle into waves on this board. not yet experimented with quad setup, but have changed the side fins with nexus (m) for added speed and whip as I found the board a little slow coming off a DTM 104 l custom with shapers mach five fins (Hi Dan !)

how much do you weight?how do you go stability wise on the 7'7?
-i'm at kg. find the 8.5 great, very comfortable, but sometimes i think i could do with less board

Front part of the deck is creatures, but hand cut to custom fit the board (props go to the dude at NZ board store in Pt Chev who did an awesome job, i just gave design input), tail is an off the rack bobby martinez pad. I'm at 155 pounds or a little above depending on the eating habits, the board is really stable (well relatively for its size) I could easily go smaller (in glassy conditions). Next either the 7'4" or perhaps the 7'0" (V. Walsh) if SB brings that out. I got the board in NZ as none of the aussie dealers had it available in carbon at the time. I've been stepping down in size by about foot every year since 2009 and still not finished. Everytime I get a new board I think to myself: could've/should've gone shorter/smaller and no exception with the seven 7. I think most of us are on too much board. Of course that only applies in glassy conditions, which is the only conditions I go out in anyway, otherwise I hop on a windsurfer or kite. No need to ride a camel in a rainforest. cheers
