I have both. A lot has been said about the Methane. It is still one of the best surf paddles out there. The GL surf is very different. It is a big strong paddle for big strong paddlers. If you are worried about breaking paddles then you should have a look at it. It is very stiff and the blade is thicker than a normal blade which adds to the stiffness and strength. It is around 100 sq inches I think. It has a very smooth and powerful action in the water - when you are bracing the soft teardrop shape seems to glide really well on the surface of the water. It's quite uncanny. Plus the thicker blade means not only that it is stronger, but also it doesn't hack up your rails as well. Acceleration onto the wave is startling - as long as you have the power to use it.

I actually like it for distance paddling too - more than I do the Methane. The stiffness of the paddle and the shape of the blade means that you seem to be able to transfer every ounce of effort into movement. It would be great for a powerful guys in sprints. The only downside is that the thick blade means that it can be a bit "splashy" if you have an ill-disciplined stroke.

The GL Surf is actually quite a light paddle, but feels somehow heavier than it is. It maybe is because the reinforced blade means there is more relative weight in the blade than with other paddles. So if you are after the most ultralight paddle in the world, the GL Surf will not be for you. But if you have a powerful stroke and want a powerful and very strong paddle to go with it, it's definitely worth a look. It looks pretty too.

Except I still prefer the Methane myself.. Maybe because I'm so used to it.

Can't beat the methane.

I have it plus QB elite racer and QB Kahana and for surfing you can't go past the methane IMO.

Swap around paddles with mates a you will soon know what feels the best.
