New on the forum ,but have been a long time reader .
i'm on to my second sunova board ,this time a 9.1 acid .Thinking of up grading the standard fins
for extra performance .
so do I stick to the same size .I think they are equivalent to 7.0 fcs .
And does it matter if I get carbon fins or fibreglass..
Any help appreciated ..

so many sizes and shapes its kinda confusing ...

I am pretty clueless on fins in general, but on my 9'4 and 9'1 Acid, I like the FCS MF-1's

I weighed 107 kg when riding those fins, they loosened up the board but had plenty of drive.

In stock Sunov Fins, I run the 94's in my Acids

Hey, I have the 8'10 Acid 120L and used a few different fins on it @85kg. The stock fins are really big so I started playing around with the fins and got some FCS Nexus H-3 fins (large) and wow are they the perfect fit for the board! I had hoped the FCS Nexus H-3 fins would live up to their hype as they seem to be either loved or loathed by surfers in the reviews. I got some nice waves and the board just cuts through the wave like er...acid! The fins have great grip and release and very smooth and also snappy off the top. The large FCS Nexus H-3 fins are a lot smaller than the stock Sunova '102' glass fin which are quite big.
UNTIL...
I got a set of Maui Fin Co Kai v2 thruster large surf fins (not SUP fins). OMG...These carbon things are next level performance and I've tried a lot of fins! Faster, more acceleration, snappy, much tighter turning with grip and release like nothing else! I should try the FCS Nexus H3 again but these Kai V2 let me do turns I have never done before on the Acid!

Thanks Steve .great to hear they are working for you ,and great review on the acid ,good reading .
I've only had my acid for 2 weeks .After watching Berts vid,it really got me thinking how this board
would work better for me ,so brought one ,after having ridden a 31 wide squash tail and quads ,always felt hard to
dig the tail in .and sharp turns where tough .

the nexus H -3 fins or Maui 's really look good .And has the research to back them up .,mine is the 9.1
acid ,@ 126 litres ...but I'm 95 kgs .and looking to do these turns your talking about .
i think I will get some for sure .Let you know what I think .

i do have a couple of windsurfing maui fins ,.great fins .

Thanks for the feedback. The Acid is a wicked board so I wanted to give it a proper review. I think the thing to consider is that the Acid works very very well with other fin brands and don't be afraid of going smaller. I am a fin fanatic and pretty much always swap out the stock fins for other brands that suit my interest and conditions. This can be an expensive hobby but when you strike the right fin set up it can transform your riding experience. So for me the MFC Kai Thruster V2 is a joy.

Yeah.... it was good to revisit that review... nice job SteveO, and I very much agree with your take on it!

I do like the look of those fins.... good base for drive and interesting shape, that I'd love to try a set before buying.
I would go with the mediums.
Fins are budget busters for me

I was thinking medium too ...but haven't ridden a thruster for 1 year..because I've gone a thruster set up only on the acid ,I may need the large ..( been riding a flow with quads ). what about these .i've alway gone after market fins ,I find you get more speed and turning .can't seem to locate any of your ones pictured ,at my local store .these look cool. And in stock .

I quickly replaced the Sunova 105's that came with my "Creek" with a set of fins from Rob Piros.
(I detected that Rick thought I was a bit soft using such big fins)
I had to buy a fixed centre fin to match the sidebites that I had, but that was ok.
They have made a big difference - people think I can actually surf!
Anyway, I notice that Rob's website says he is sold out of the sets - maybe we can hit him up to get another run done?

totes agree. love these fins VP!
I use the v6 sides in my sunova style 10 footer and v8 in rear.
if i had them in fcs, id go v8 sides and v6 rear in my sunova flow.
I use the v8 sides in my 5'11 funboard which also gives it heaps of drive for getting up quick and getting down the line in our close-out summers.
do more piros and ill prob buy a few sets in fcs and future. ps even fcsII you shud do! ill go a trifecta.

ha ha... soft? Never!

Nice fins

I have had 2 sets of VP fins.... I really liked them.
"Liked"
I say this because I have only lost 2 fins in my life..... and they were both brand new VP's. One from each set.
The 1st or 2nd day with each.... one would simply fall out and disappear.
I think that the screws work into the fin and if you do not retighten them..... they may fall out, so check your screws before each session, till you are comfortable that everything is tight.

I am mates with the Maui Fin Co importer/distributor in NZ and scored the Kai V2 that way. If you know where to click, here is where you can buy MFC fins in Australia www.aroonagroup.com/australia-shop

Contact the Aussie distributor Aroona direct and ask about the Kai V2 as don't seem to be available at the moment so they might be able to sort you out: www.aroonagroup.com/mfc

I'm in the same boat - 8'8" JL Supertech with the stock thruster setup. Tried it as a quad once and didn't like it (although I may give it one more shot).

I've ridden the GL2 Lopez in a quad setup and liked those, thinking about switching it up on the SuperTech, any suggestions?

Getting new fins is like riding a different board ,some you like ,some you don't its trial and error .
Once you find a set you like ,its like winning bingo.

I've got a 9,1 acid coming ,I'm gonna get a set of fins ,I quite like what the say about the nexus h-3.

but do you buy fins for pivot or drive ? the acid i believe turns quite well ,so maybe driver stiffer fins would suit it better ?

like the MFC' v2 ,they seem like a wider fin down low or c-drives .I don't know enough to comment ,until i try . soon .

some board like the flow are better as a quad ,due to the wider squash tail.

I have not had a chance to try my C-Drive fins on my Acid yet - but will try this weekend and report back.....If they have the same impact as they have had on my Starby Airborn.......

the stock sunova fins are quality fibreglass.
glass give the best of all worlds- even flex, tip control, solid base.
those templates are matched to sunova design.. by bert.
see berts thoughts on fins on youtube - the 105's suit every sup we make , they are the go to fin for the outsides but you would rarely want a 105 in the centre , try something smaller for sure ,maybe no centre on a small day- that will change your perceptions :)

Thanks guy ,will check it out ...I find the stock fins fine at the moment ,but will try it with no rear as well ..
I have ordered some large FCC 7.0 FCS carbon core fins to try .maybe squirt a bit more out of it .

The acid is pretty loose as is .great board .it really delivers .

the leopard s look wild .tardy.thanks everyone else .
