The obvious answer is bigger for the former, but I would like to take of late on such a board.

I'm 6'4".. 100kgs and 60 yrs old.. I love my 11' Nalu for getting onto waves early.

I also love to use this board at Big Left on bigger days and should do what you're after.

Find an old PSH 12 gun. Failing that, people seem to like the Atlantis Venom.

I'm with DJ on this one the NALU s will do the job .10,6 11, 11.4 [10.8]

I have a 10'8 QUEST for this job ...similar shape to the NALU .

the 10,6 x 30 & 11x 31 have the most rocker ..the 11,4 x30 and 10.8x 30 flatter. but faster to paddle.

IF Your going to need it for bigger waves ...i would get the 10,6...but if you only want up to 4 foot
the 11 is a wave catching machine .

but any longer board will probably be better at catching a wave over a 10,2 .

DJ you don't look 60 .you look like a young dude having fun, nice vid ,

Starboard Widepoint 11'2" is also a board to keep in mind.I`m 6 3 and 115 kgs (ish) and also 50 years old and got one in the starlight construction for a thousand bucks second hand.Catches heaps of waves big ,small, fat whatever and surfs really well IMO.Has quite a pulled in nose , rounded tail and just enough nose rocker to keep you out of trouble and still have plenty of glide. Im just a hacker but in the hands of a good surfer i think this board could do amazing stuff.Check out the review on You tube.

I'm using the 12.6 Blue Planet bump surfer for those type of waves.

I really like the look of the Jimmy Lewis Hanalei. The Aussie dealer (who seems pretty helpful on here) has some listed in the Buy and Sell section at a good price. Two sizes to choose from ... i'd suggest the larger one.

I'll throw this in here.... probably make a stand alone post as well.
Just made this video today, after a few days of riding my Flat-water paddler.
I had tried in in surf briefly last fall, but never committed to the tail and failed.

Now.... I can't get enough of this fun machine!

ya ya ya... I am a fully indoctrinated pimp and totally in the tank with Sunova... so don't listen to anything I have to say.

Creekie that looks like great fun. I'm considering a 9'5" Sup but might go even longer after viewing this. I need something to catch those small waves really easily. Cheers

Ive got the 11 ' 2" Hanalei which I got off Aus JL boards a couple of months ago and am a stoked in mine.
I'm 59yrs and 90kg and a beginner and after 4 sessions on flat water was in the surf and catching waves.
I have been surfing 40yrs but mainly on a longboard the last ten yrs or so.
Heaps of flotation plenty of glide and catches waves easy.
I stuck RSPRO Hex traction up front and can nose ride easily.
Beautiful made board and really light.
Has go pro mount on nose and 4 x attachment points for dry bag.
My wife and kids love it as is so stable and plenty of flotation.
JL Aus has them on Special for around $1500 at the moment and Rob Gotto is great guy to deal with.

I was considering a custom 12" Sunova Search set up as a thruster for just that purpose.
