Recreation? Have you seen the 5 to 6 meter swell and sea of robe this time of year? I did 2 years commercial sea time , $2k something to complete my master 5, I charge $20 per hour for delivery services with a standby rate. It's not recreation deliverying other people's vessels.

OK so if that is $20 per hour plus standby rate for the time at the wheel or is that $20 plus for the entire time you are on the yacht? 24 hours on a yacht at $20 per hour is $480 per day which can be $3360 per week. As a fully trained qualified technician with four technologies learned I would be getting a whole $1200 per week. The point I am trying to make is that service industries can name their own price on something totally unrelated to effort or input.People need to be told of boat ownrnership costs before they decide to buy a boat not after/

boat cost $15000 delivery say $2000 survey for insurance $550 slip cost $425 insurance say $800 mooring fees $3500 and replace rigging if over ten years old $3000 so for starters the first year can easily cost in excess of $22000 for a $15000 boat then there is the scam of having to check or replace flares epirbs life rafts on a regular basis at owners cost that can be another $1000. Then there is regular slipping and anti fouling. Gerroffit!!! No wonder the yachting industry is going backwards. The bottom line is that there is no genuine competition in any thing to do with boats. Everyone charges to a price that will give them an ample weekly income not related to the goods or services provided. And by the way...you spent $2000 on qualifications while it costed my employer approx an estimated $100000 to keep me up to date with technology and he saw fit to pay me only $1200 per week not $3360.

I only do deliverys to help people out and they trust me and pay my invoices. I wouldn't do a delivery for someone that has gripes about paying the money I deserve. If I get holed up in Robe for 4 days on your little Dunc I expect to get paid not voluntarily.

With your attitude and distorted view id say that's probably a good thing. Last thing Australia needs is another liability on a small, under-prepared yacht needing to be rescued when his stuff breaks because he wasn't prepared to pay professional's to do their job. Another thing you are discovering is cheap boats can often cost more in the long run than expensive boats. Good lesson to learn that one

Damn that's good value! Around here in a country town the cheapest is $55 an hour. He is half the price of what the other shipwrights charge!

I also spent 20 years in marine yards in Adelaide and know most south Australian boats , most of the Dunc 29s etc have never been out of the gulf. Just pay the money put it on a truck for safe delivery or take the risk and find someone that will take the risk to delivery it to you for what you think is a reasonable price.

Hippo, you earn $1,200 a week for probably a 40 hour week and that's $30 / hr. He earns $3,360 for a 168 hour week which is the $20 / hour he is quoting. $20/ hr no extra charge for overtime after 40 hours. You are far better off than him. People need to make a living and you will find it hard to find any body that will run a business for $20/ hr.

I don't care to be rude jode5 he's got a dream which is good for a 71 year old. He will now think about things futher and reavaluate the situation and his query on the forum. Seemed a bit like others that come along and won't take No for a answer!

Cost of things reminds me the other day when I was buying pipe fittings, hose, clamps etc to repair my little ships exhaust, the shop keeper said that boat used to be spelt with one T now it's spelt with two Ts.

So what - do you expect him to stay awake for 168 hours straight while he safely delivers your boat??. Dont be an idiot -of course he'll need to sleep, but he'll be lucky to catch 20mins at a time whilst ensuring the safety of your vessel and getting it delivered in the shortest possible time - probly much quicker than if you sailed it.

again someone jumps to conclusions...i taught myself everything in life...now i will teach myself blue water sailing by observing others. I am the owner of the boat and will be the crew for delivery. Yuo must be of the younger generation saying that. Life has become merely the expression of opinions not knowledge and so far this thread has been all that. No one should expect payment for doing nothing especially sleeping. The deliverer will be on for 8 hour shifts not full time. What you are really saying is that i am incapable of learning to sail on the ocean. strange days. Now the moderator has not put up my previous post as well.
