I get a kick out of seeing pics of other people on their boats, don't care if its mucking around replacing something grubby or a sunset offshore, it's all good to me.
I have an older, but decent, SLR type camera that I often take with me, but through sheer convenience I find I end up using my I-Phone for a lot of my sailing pics. While the resolution is fine, I find a lot of my shots lack the depth of field, colors or quality of some of the other efforts I see. (Especially now that I dropped my phone and the lens is now permanently fuzzy!)

Curious, what does everybody else use as their camera of choice?

Olympus TG-3, a few years old now. The TG-5 looks the goods!

Best camrea I use is the canon G12 semi auto power shot. Also use it underwater in ikulite housing. Now I have only just updated to the powershot canon G3X as it has a 200mm zoom something the g12 lacks for distance photography.

All all my pics go to a card reader and onto iPad for Internet posting.

G12

G3X

The wife and I use a Nikon AW130
Has many features I know nothing about but it takes our terrible photos beautifully
Water proof to 30m

Pentax Optio WG2. I bought it for underwater stuff but use it for lots of things now. Leave my good camera home now when traveling, cruise ships etc.

I generally use my phone, but when things get wet I use the Olympus TG-4.

I bought it because it's tough and genuinely water proof.

The picture quality is really good for a point and shoot and is more than adequate for the amature.

For video, I use a Sanyo Xacti. Full HD video, saves to SD Ram, 4 hour battery life. Submersible to 10 metres. Sadly, not made any more.
For photos on the last trip, a Nikon D50 with a choice of 28-50 or 50-200. Otherwise, a fairly old Sony DSC-S600 with a rather unreliable zoom. And a battery cover held on with electrical tape.

Old Canon G9 in a waterproof housing. Does reasonable video as well as single shot, the housing is robust enough not to have to worry about it, and the buttons are sufficiently large to easily use with cold or gloved fingers. It's a far better camera than we are photographers, and for those moments out in the ocean it does everything we want.

The Xacti was the camera of choice by yachting bloggers/youtube and is available still secondhand. Not as tough as the Olympic or Pentax tough cameras, I would not try standing on one or dropping it.

Why would I want to take a video underwater? I rarely take photos. I guess I'm sick of it as I used to do it for a living.

Olympus Stylus Tough TG-870

Does a great job on holiday and underwater. Have made a couple of good sailing vids with it.

It's handy when servicing a mooring, especially some one else s.
