I'm planning my next SA West Coast trip later this summer and thinking of visiting Pearson Island.

Anyone sailed there and, if so, have any tips for that part of the world?

From what I've read, the NE shore of the Island, known as Eastern Cove, is the preferred anchorage, and there is small beach there too.

Judging by the lack of replies, I guess Pearson Island really is off the beaten track!

Related question. Anyone got any tips for any of the nearby mainland anchorages such as Elliston or Hall Bay?

Been there for work a few years ago. Awesome spot but might be a bit different now it's a marine park sanctuary zone so no fishing.

Two anchorages, one on the eastern shore in a horseshoe and the second on the north coast

Thanks. Yes, I see it's now part of the Investigator Marine Park. There should still be plenty of fishing opportunities between islands though

I would strongly suggest you don't do any diving or snorkeling there or anywhere near any of the offshore islands near Eyres Peninsula. Lots of white pointer activity since the shark cage industry has ruined it for a lot of the local divers. Swim only in up to waist deep water.

Related point, for part of this trip I'll be joining a shark researcher at the Neptune Islands who is studying sharks to understand the impact that shark cage diving is having on shark behaviour.

Just to clarify that yellow esky is 4 ft long and we caught these at the anchorage in 2009 before it was a marine park.

Are they snook or King George Whiting? I always get those two confused.

Snook (top photo) are longer and skinnier than King George Whiting (bottom photo), and their fins are smaller.
