Do any of you Melbournites know of a good reasonably priced canvas mob that could do these two jobs?

One mob rough quoted me nearly $3k just for a dodger using my existing frame?!? I call bull**** on that price.

Try Bull sails in Geelong. Galatea on this forum. Helped my mate install one of his Lazyjack/stackpacks a couple of weeks ago and was impressed.

I had my Compass 28 dodger done a couple of years ago using the old one as a pattern. Since fabric stretches it was never expected to be a perfect fit, but after a day of moving a few fittings it came up pretty well. It is not perfect, but at 1/4 the price quoted by the trimmer at Sandy YC I'm happy.

I had a boom bag done last year by Peter Green who came highly recommended, but I must say that while it functions well enough, there are a few disappointing details.

I found Lisa who did the dodger through "Jim Allen Canvas", and she was located somewhere out North Dandenong way from memory. I lost her number, but if you Google you should find her.

I had a few quotes for the dodger on my 39 Beneteau and all averaged around 3K. So I took a gamble and sent my tattered one over to a Seamstress I use for cushions/bedding etc in Thailand to make a copy of. Including the postage back and forth it came out as a fraction of the quotes in Oz. Also had new cushions, fitted sheets, top sheets and doonas made.
It was made with genuine Sunbrella in the colour of my choice and a good quality clear. Due to stretching of the original it was not a perfect fit (clear needs a bit of adjustment) but it was not $3000AUD either! With a bit of playing around it will be fine.

If you've got the old one as a template do it yourself. I have no sewing experience and had to get youtube to show me how to set up the machine but it was super easy. Bought sunbrella material online and traced the old one onto it. Got some clear plastic stuff for front window.. heavy duty thread and then messed around onboard to get it tight. 200 bucks tops. Doesnt look perfect but it stood up to a bashing in bass strait and keeps the spray off. Best part is now i could do it again anytime. Give it a go

We make a lot of boom bags, the cost for the zip away style is $680 up until 3m and then $140 per metre after that. In weathermax 8o with ptfe thread. Horse rug style are a fraction of that.
We do some dodgers, a bit reluctantly as they are a pita. We will only do local boats on site. Very fiddle and labour content is high. We are currently doing a smallish one for a 30' Yacht $2200.

Pedantic note: If we use the UK definition, this thread is about Spray Hoods. They call the fabric over the lifelines on the side of the cockpit Spray Dodgers.

Saving some money by taking the gamble may cost you more overall , those creases maybe dificult to remove the sun and heat will help but there's no guarantee that you will pull the clears out smooth.
Changing the subject the dunc 37 in the background is the sister ship to my old girl my dunc was also a ketch but I re-rigged her to sloop what area is this?

The Wooden Boat Shop is doing this work and a nice job at it. Don't know pricing though.
