Wow, a Paper Tiger mainsail with a reef, on a keel boat, in those conditions.
It would have been pretty close to it's limits. I think they're only 4 or 5oz cloth...

Nice sailing conditions though

Bit of a ring in here as its a trailer sailer
That old PT sail has been great , i think at 100 sq ft i reef early and have sailed many miles in very strong winds the only damage is wear and tear as the roller reefing can be tough on the luff and slugs (which i fitted and since repaired)
i almost retired it when i got my new Horrorizon wardrobe , lucky i did'nt as it has been my main of choice although not class legal it was a great investment , swapped for box of mixed wines as opposed to my >$1200 piece of crap from Omagh the sandringham tent maker that also was not class legal

we had two reefs in and half a headsail up last tuesday arvo on lake maquarie nsw
the northwester blew in a 45 knots then settled down to 35knots
for the rest of the arvo ,was some challenging sailing for a couple
of hours, we had a ball

Great pics Madman. I hope one day me and the Missus can sail in such conditions. We're still learning.

It' a nice looking sail and sets very well for a roller boom set up. Off the beach cats have fairly strongly built sails and are usually a heavier grade, that looks like 6 ounce Dacron. The only down side with dinghy or off the beach cat sails is the cloth might be heavily resin filled. Seems to sit well on the boom though.
