Just made it across the Bass Strait in our little Compass Northerner 28. We ran Eden to Bryans Corner by Freycinet in a shade under 3 days. After 10 days waiting in Eden for a weather window, we had a pretty charmed run - none of that safety gear got used!

We only used 25 litres of diesel, which was pretty good.

Be good to meet any Tassie seabreezers as we cruise around.

Course, if anyone wants to let me know of those secret, only known to locals anchorages. .......

Cheers

Hey well done guys! Bishwa here, we met up on Pittwater a year ago, had dinner together and a few ales. I ended up have a very benign crossing of the straight last year too, motored the whole way, not a breath of wind and no swell.

Great to see that you're back in Tas after a big Bass Straight crossing, that fells like a big achievement doesn't it? Would love to catch up while you're down here. Misch and I are heading up to Maria/Freycinet during Easter, so if you're still up there we could meet up, otherwise when you're in Hobart, we can bring you up for a home cooked meal. I'll PM you my mobile, so give me a call sometime.

Hi Bristle

We are at Port Huon which is at the bottom of Tassie on the Huon River if you are planning to come down this way

I am probably biased but some people say that the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Huon River offer some of the best cruising grounds in Tassie

A couple of nice bays on the Huon to drop anchor in is Barretts Bay and Eggs and Bacon Bay which are across from each other on either side of the river so if it is not sheltered in one you can go across to the other

I have a spare mooring in Eggs and Bacon Bay (so you could stay there regardless of what the weather is doing ) that has just been serviced so you are welcome to use that if you want to (send me a pm and i will send you you the location in the bay and the mooring number)

Up here at Port Huon there is good holding in Hospital Bay if you want to anchor or there is the Kermandie Marina if you want to get a Marina Berth

When i am finished cooking dinner i will add a few photo's showing the places i have written about

Regards Don

Well, as you can see it's pretty rough anchored here off Schouten Island just under the Freycinet peninsula. The last shot is as we approached the tasmanian mainland. A welcome sight after nearly 3 days. What a beautiful place, can't wait to explore - and hit Triabunna for the best fish and chips in Tasmania.

Just you illustrate that you gotta keep yer wits about you, after crossing the Strait without a hitch, I loaded our ridiculously tiny tender with water in the front section, forgetting that my wife wasn't on the back to balance things up, got 30m off the shore and sank! I had to grab the painter, tow the lot back to shore and try again. Doh!

Cheers
