Need to get some crap out of here, Too many unfinished projects!

Solution........... Finish some!

This mini frame has been sitting in the shed untouched for about 2 years! (He's got a mate as well)
The fuselage design is something I did about the same time. Even bought the ply.
About 6 months ago i cut the panels so i didn't have to keep moving the sheet of ply around!
Talk about slow progress!

Anyway... Finally stuck some stuff together to see how it looks!

Might go aright! It's a lot lighter that the first one!

So far only the inside seams have been glassed on the main body. I'll glass the backrest once the main part is mounted so that i can match the two together better. Plan is to glass a layer of cloth or two over the outside, (probably only 1 layer!)

One think I have noticed is on this frame. The mast step is off by about 0.5° from vertical.
I'm not sure it is enough to cause any problems, or warrant trying to fix it.

Cheers
Glenn

Those curves at bottom front might lift the front going fast upwind, but it sure looks sleek

Thanks Guy's, can't wait to see it finished myself! Been a few years in the head and shed!

Funny Benno, your the second person to make the shark reference, (The other guy is Ben as well....... Creepy!)

Never saw shark when I designed it. Actually started by going for a muscle car look, ended up there.

Not sure what I'll do with the paint job, but that's a while off.

thinking about that seat, the flat top edge is going to dig into your hips when you sail/capsize. no 2 ways about it

OK I have a plan!

I ma going to put a seat into the back of this think. This will have vertical walls that will do two things;

1. Address the issue LY pointed out, with the top edges cutting into the hips.

2. Provide some support to the back edge of the capsule and stiffen it up a bit.

What i have done is cut the arse, (literally) out of an old Outdoor seat. I am planning on making a pattern with it and something else, (not sure yet) to put a seat right across the back 400mm or so of the capsule. Right up to the top edge. Then fill the cavity with expanding foam for good measure.

My question at the moment is with regard to making the mould. I am only planning a one off, but how many of layers of glass matt would you normally use to make a mould?

Cheers

As far as layers of mat three layers of 450gm will do giving you approx 3mm thickness. If your planning to use a sacrificial mould have a look at my grp tub post

Cheers, I Was thinking 2 layers, but 3 it is!

Initially i was looking at just glassing over the top and finishing that. I have done this before, but i remember the bogging and sanding and bogging and sanding and bog...... (Well you get the idea) to be a real pain.

Also i will pretty much have to glass this in place, so getting the support material out afterwards would be impossible. And the chair base it Polypropylene, and nothing sticks to that.

Just for reference, Anyone in Brisbane know the cheapest place to get CSM and resin from?
I have been using polyester from Barnes Products for ~$20 for a 1kg container, (used to be about $16).
Also about $5 for a 1sqm piece of 300gsm matt.
I've been reluctant to buy big quantities of resin, as i don;t tent to use it often enough and find it goes off.

Have you thought of making up a beanbag seat to go in there ? Cheap and comfortable
I have used custom made foam cushion seats before too also cheap and comfortable
Nice job you have done there BTW
