So we get classified as Highly dangerous activity by the Joondalup council who decides to enforce a ban and park us in restricted areas and not a word from WAKSA?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Am i missing something?????
Did you guys represent us, are you challenging the decision???
This will be closely scrutinised by other councils and surely WAKSA is doing something???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Even if you do, the lack of communication to your members is very poor.
I respect that you are volonteers but if you decide to represent all the kiters then you should do just that.
Hope to hear some sort of comment soon or you can kiss good bye to my future membership.

Hi!
From minutes and agendas held on 16/02/2010:
"At the Council meeting of 17 March 2009 (C12-03/09 refers), a 90-signature petition was received on behalf of residents of the City of Joondalup requesting the City ban the use of kite surfing on the entire stretch of Mullaloo Beach; and a 107-signature petition was also received on behalf of residents of the City of Joondalup requesting the City ban the use of Kite Surfing on the stretch of Mullaloo Beach to the north of the Mullaloo Surf Club."

I guess we need to organise more than 197 signature petition!

What is the format of proposed petition?

~~~~~~TITLE (What to put here?)~~~~~~~
First Name| Last Name| Address|Ph. number|Signature|Date
is that ok?
Everyone, when we got a TITLE and the rest, I suggest make a Word file, print it or even put on the Internet somewhere so we can download it.
Thanks and good luck with signatures :)
an online petition on a forum is going to do jack ****. You guys need to have a petition and go to each of the beaches and get every kiter to sign it .
Typical. It's branded "dangerous" without any proof. Was the shire presented with cases of injury to the beachgoing public because of kitesurfing? How can you outlaw somehting dangerous if it's not been proven to be a hazard.
kneejurk from ****ing old people. Crazy kids flying through the air, looks scary, better ban it.
Do they not realize that we would be more than happy to restrict launching/landing to a set and posted area?
I'd like to see children banned from Perth beaches because they are unpredictable, noisy (over the acceptable dB limit for work/public places), they piss on the beach, and they are not on a leash.
This is what the Council are proposing, not a complete ban.
However there is a group of residents that presented a petition that would like to see us banned completely.
This is NOT an online petition, just a Word file that we can print and take with us on a beach.
I could have a three kiters signed today, plus friends, wife etc. Let's agree on a piece of paper first. How is that?
If someone can do that it's a start...
if someone was to sort out a copy and take it to all the beaches down the coast one arvo you would get hundreds of signatures. Once it gets banned up north it will start getting outlawed everywhere.
hi i just sent an email on the WAKSA site, maybe we'll get a response?
"Hi commitee members,
I wonder if you could update members on any reponse/strategy to safeguard/negotiate beach access with regards to the recently released plans from Joondalup Council. As highlighted in recent seabreeze WAKSA forum posting members feel that there has been little representation and that other councils may see this as a test case to restict access.
regards
Todd Slaughter
The only danger it presents is a danger to ourselves! There are bigger issues at stake in this state! They just have to look outside their square at the bigger picture! It would be a damm shame if the sport we all love was banned! Todd let me know what goes down with waksa. And to all who read these posts, get involved with who ever you kite with and try and stop this, **** my mum and dad would sign on the dotted line for us all!!
Laters
see ya out there.
Hi Paul,
Be careful getting the media involved, it is a double edged sword and the media have lots of info and stuff against kiting and very little supporting it i'd say.
Be careful!
Hey Diginoz,
Do you mean this Weather Girl?
This is Angela Tsun from Channel 9 Weather learning to kite with AKS. She was super nice and a real good sport. She did well in her training and really enjoyed it, even staying after the cam crew left to continue. The Show airs on the 15th March in a program called "Just Add Water".
Angela is welcome back anytime, she's a top chick.
Cheers,
KH
Hi all,
please just sit tight for another 24 hours before completing the council's consultation form or before creating petitions etc. although you may not be aware mullaloo kiters user group and WAKSA have been on this issue for a year and we will be holding a meeting later this week for all kiters to attend. We will also outline what we believe to be the best approach to this situation. The sentiment and feeling of getting signatures is a very good one and we will need that from each any every kiter in the joondalup region, however we need to ensure that we feedback a consistent message from the kiting community else we will do ourselves more harm than good.
Hold off for 24 hours before doing anything and watch this space!
Hi to Sebol & others.
Great to see widespread concern BUT Yes you definitely are missing something.
The local Mullaloo kiters - MUGS - and WAKSA have been all over this since the issue of banning erupted last year. At the time of the first surprise attack to council by the anti-kiting faction WAKSA, along with local kiters, committed to a major effort in Mullaloo based on a "whatever it takes" formula.
A very large contingent of concerned kiters and WAKSA reps played their part in a very successful coup which was orchestrated at the council meeting where the issue was first raised and the quoted petitions were tabled. There the initial motion to have us banned was thrown out completely.
MUGS and waksa have since submitted to the council several items for consideration by the council which has put together the wider ranging plan which is the one now out there for public comment. There was little else anyone could do until this draft plan was formulated.
We have two meetings scheduled this week to get a coordinated response mapped out. It would be wise for everyone to hold off until this co-ordinated response, with planned professional advise and assistance, is devised.
Without reviewing & quoting every source WAKSA can assure you that the initial reaction by MUGS and WAKSA was widely distributed at the time in newsletters and website info and here on seabreeze etc. I think sebol's; & others; perception that we are now seen to be doing nothing is just good old human nature resulting in us ignoring what, at the time, may not have triggered a need for concern. The heavy media coverage of the now long awaited & fully expected draft program is now raising awareness & alarm bells everywhere.
We will need your support & the support of the full membership once we have a plan to move forward. A plan we could do very little about until this draft was released. Meetings of the core players here ie the local MUGS group & WAKSA will be advising of a series of response actions which will almost certainly include our appointment of some professional legal &/or lobbyist assistance.
While it is great to see such concern coming from kiters on the forum please, everyone, keep in mind that public forums can be; & are being; monitored by ALL parties to this issue. Thoughtless or inappropriate comments can be used to bolster the case for bans & restrictions. Do not expect to see detailed outlines of our plans on display here on seabreeze but we will keep members alerted via our own website and internal news items.
And yes you are probably right in assuming that this may well be something of a test case which other councils are watching. That is fairly standard MO styled behavior of councils where 'new' issues ae being addressed. A very good reason for us to present our case succinctly,accurately and effectively in this instance. The wider community must be given the opportunity to appreciate that kiters are a group of responsible citizens (ie not hoons) practicing a sport which is far less dangerous to both themselves and certainly the public than may first appear to non participants.
Keep up the support & helpful comments.
Mullaloo Kiters User Group and WAKSA had a meeting last night. There is no additional news which we can print on a public forum, however rest assured we are working on our approach to the beach management plan.
Please bear with us, but know that lots of people are working on this issue - just because we are not able to post full details on the forums, does not mean the issue is being forgotten. I can assure you it is not!
WAKSA members will get additional information in the next few days.
