Anyone got any local advice for kitesurfing Tugun? Down there for a week at the end of November and want to get some kiting in. Looking on the map Tugun is out of bounds. Any decent wave spots that aren't too crowded nearby? Failing that it's currumbin I guess?

You won't get too many spots that are better than Currumbin in a northerly. I have spoken to quite a few people who have traveled the world kitesurfing in the most exotic locations and they rate Currumbin as being right up near the top of the list as the best. For that reason, yes it does get quite busy but there is plenty of room. It works best on an out going tide and you can just set up on the sand near the car park in the estuary, play in the flat water for a while then head out into the waves.

If it's just good waves ur after with zero crowds, try the south side of the rock wall at the Tallebudgera creek inlet, which is only about a 10min drive from where u r staying. I have done a few downwinders from Narrowneck to Currumbin and have found this spot to have the most epic waves on our journey down the coast, I can only comment on a northerly, but can't see why it wouldn't work in a southerly (cross on of course).

I could have some free time myself at the end of November so feel free to pm me......

Have fun and Stay Safe

Thanks for the goss Gilly, after that rating I'll definately be giving Currumbin a shot. Might have to pack the TT as well as the SB by the looks. I'll get in touch closer to, would be great to do a dw'er with a local.

Hey Dave, haven't been any further south than the alley but always keen to try new spots. Yep, nobby's is another sweet break and never usually that crowded. We came around Miami Hill heading down towards Burleigh a couple of Sundays ago and came across some nice overhead peelers all the way thru to Currumbin.

Forecast is looking sweet for tomorrow arvo sesh......

My personal view

You have to be brave to kite the alley in a South East, tends to be a bit offshore I have seen the lifeguards on jetskis rescue kiters
can get away with a East South East though,

Kirra works only in a Northerly

^^^ +1 prea, you only have to look at a map of that area that shows true north,
then you will understand which wind direction works and which doesn't....

another awesome sesh yesterday arvo, love those northerly's yeeeew!

Northerly is direct onshore at kirra.NW is cross on and works well, but if its more then NE ur in the wrong spot.

Best on the high or incoming tide for the surfboard.TT for low tide on the sand bank tho

What's the go in a southerly down there, it all looks offshore from what I can see? Couple of big ones coming through next week when I'm down by the looks.

Tends to be lumpy in a southerly if ur at palm beach or south of there. Its doable, but normally iffy til 200m out type thing. Best to hit north of nobbys beach in a southerly. South of the currumbin alley is a better option then palmie in a dead southerly, but if it swings offshore then u need the bus after a paddle then hitting 19th ave and flip ur thumb out
