Just Wandering and as a rook, went yesterday to Sandgate on what seemed like perfect wind conditions regardless of the rain . however, no one was kitting... am i missing something ???

on the same page, where close to brissie would be a good spot for the weekend?

It's all about the tide at Sandgate - wont see many out if the tide is high enough to cause the chop to bounce back off the wall - becomes virtually unrideable.

Fabs as I local I was keeping an eye out. On sat there were some guys out at decent tides, no-one at other times.

There was one dude out at 5:45 am!! That's what I call Keen as.

PS didn't see anyone today, probly good.

There is gunna be a heap of ****e pushed out into the bay from the rivers flooding. Trees, cows, fence poles and so forth. It usually floats just beneath the surface as well. Keep an eye out, nothing like hitting a log at 20 kts.

Nice kiting there on sat at @11.30 25knts with the tide just right but hour later got too gusty and rainy with the cyclone coming,
Saw a guy the other day there put his kite into powerlines, the kite launched unintentionally - he was not hooked in as he was setting up, he grabbed the bar to save the kite he did a nice controlled ski through the grass did not panic and had to let go of the bar when he got close to trees.
Kite then went to the powerlines. Could happen to any one - what I took from it is be careful about anchoring your kite during setup I like to lean the board on the kites inflated leading edge with a little sand on the board depending on wind.

Yeah Dave, I've been sitting on the sidelines as well. Just some advice for those who are glass half full types Bloody gagging for a session though I tell you.

I was down there over the weekend to check it out, and there is heaps of crap on the beach.... I think it will be out of action for a least another week.
The council will have to get down there and clean it up first I reckon.....
Maybe a local will be able to tell when its fixed up...

NR as far as the little kitebeach goes, I agree, if you wanna use it then maintain it don't just expect locals to do it for you.

However last flood, 2011, there was a whole bunch of people cleaning up the whole length of the beach, picking up debris, getting muddy.

Next few days a couple of bobcats came in and did the bulk of the work in 1/10th the time.

Made the hours and hours the people spent hauling 1 muddy stick at a time look... a bit silly really.

makntracks as for as water goes - it's the stuff you can't see that worries me. In the last 2 years I've had en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blastocystis and another water borne gut infection (forgotten name now). Bay water is my main suspect.

the beach is still a mess, but it's pretty easy to walk out a bit on the sandflats (if the tide is low) and pump up, launch & land ur kite. I don't know why more people don't do this...

Pity you didn't do your homework before making that comment…. Because every year the local kite club holds a clean up the beach day (on clean up Australia day), using bureaucracy as an excuses for your laziness…. Lame! [}:)]

public liability is only an issue if we sue the council for breaking our pinky..

Unfortunately, the top 5 states in the entire world for litigation cases per number of people are: First 3: Florida, California, Texas (forgotten the order of who has most) Number 4: NSW and Number 5: QLD!

This is why I have liability insurance for my business and highly recommend joining your local kite surfing association with their liability insurance too.

Having said that, if anyone is keen to organize a local "clean-up" day (Sunshine Coast) I'd be more than happy to come along and lend a hand. You even have the offer of my trailer to put the full bags in and I'll pay the costs to get rid of it at our local TIP!
