To the poor guy who let his kite go at sandgate today with 15 knot offshore winds the sandgate coastguard have it,don't know if you got in contact with them,but say them pick up ya kite but I rang them to tell them the rider was on shore safe so they knew

Maybe it's best he doesn't get it back, doing a westerly at Sandgate is not safe.

Keitho, good to know everyone's on the lookout! I called VMR, as when I spotted him, he was still attached, but couldn't seem to get the kite up. By the time they got there, he'd ditched and must have swum in. They called me back to let me know that he was OK, and that they were going after the kite, which I was impressed with.
Once before I paddled out on a surf ski to drag a bloke back in, and another time, Padi took his RIB out to grab another fella.
Sounds like this fella owes a few six packs!

It is an eye opener about what can go wrong with choices me make,he did seem to be doing well till he dropped the kite an just never recoverd.my mrs was with me watching him and all she could say is ,so this can happen to you! No I don't kite alone and only cross or onshore,self preservation for a nubee

Sounds like he did the right thing. I don't think that enough people realise that each time you go out kiting you run the risk of not coming back with your kite. It's only 2 grand for a new one. But to some people it is worth more than their life.

What part of don't kite in off shore winds do some people not understand. I think im pretty sure if he was taught by a decent instructor, he would have known that. Don't put yourself or anyone else in a dangerous situation just because you a busting for a kite. It's just not worth it.
