I am moving to Noosa in 2 weeks and setting up home!

Took up kitesurfing in Sydney and after lessons and practice I am just about up on the board!

Where is best place to carry on practicing and getting more confident? (I have my own kit).

Thanks for any advice in advance and hopefully see you guys out there!

Cheers

Lake Weyba is one of the best places to learn to kite. Ankle to waist deep as far as 150m when you walk out. In the very middle of the lake it gets pretty deep but thats where the windsurfers ride. It works in Southerly, South Easterly and Easterly.

Only thing you have to be aware of is that the wind comes over land so can be very gusty at times. When learning I would suggest you stay well away from the trees downwind as well.

Good luck.

You will love living at Noosa . If you have a 4x4 you can also kite Double island point in the Lagoon on a Northerly or NW it is paradise up there.
Lake Weyba is a great place The only sketchy part is you have to self launch and land in the water but after a few times you get comfortable with it.

To learn you have lake weyba and lake cootharaba. Weyba ( pretty much any wind depending where you set up) is far better, less chop and shallower. Once you are confident you can hit the river mouth (N - NE), or cotton tree (S-E) which is a 20 minute drive.
You can also do downwinders in N-S along the open beaches.
Provided you know where to go as long as there is a breeze you can go kiting :D
Noosa is one of the best places in terms of that IMHO. So I go there quite regularly for holidays.

At weyba you don't have to self launch or land, but it is harder to get someone to help so learning to do so will help. Practice on either side of the area in a wind shadow, that way if anything goes wrong it won't rip you into the trees.

Does not look like that any more unfortunately, its consistently changing.
But there is usually a lagoon of some sorts, and a nice clean wave spot at the point, just don't go around the point as the current really rips past there.
If you are going from rainbow be careful of crossing the rocks, going from Tewantin is usually always good.

Thanks for all your replies gents.

I arrive at the end of April and wind depending will be looking to get straight at it. Currently only have a switchblade 12 so will also look to expand my kite collection.

I'm living minutes from Lake Weyba so that will be my starting point.

Hopefully see you guys out there! I'll be the one repeatedly falling off the board!

Cheers, Veepers.

Just handed in my resignation at work, managed to find an awesome job on up at Noosa. Very much looking forward to starting in a few weeks. So close to home and no more daily trips to Brissy!

I't gets better too, working hours allow me to kite after work.

I think at the moment our efforts would be better spent holding wind summoning ceremonies.. worst kiting season ever.

Mate if you go there on a good northerly breeze I think you will find the place is not all that isolated from kiters. You want to know your stuff too, people that go there are proper serious

Hi buddy,

If you want to find groups going up to DI, or expand your kite collection, Adventure Sports is the place to go.
Sweet shop on gympie terrace, Noosaville, you will find find all the advice you need.

We organised trip to DI when the wind looks good, always 10 or more kiters !!

Enjoy !

See you in the water.

It must be so tempting for businesses to just plug themselves like this.

I totally agree with maxfr, if you have not been up there before & the wind looks like it may be ok for DI - even if you have your own 4x4, it's def worth giving them a call.

Its a really fickle spot but can be world class, George & Fiona can be a great knowledge base on whether it's worth the drive or not.
