i found some old posts from 2006 - 07 that said it wasn't much good. I live reasonably close and just up and riding, so I wondered if anyone here kites there? I believe winds from the SE through to NE are ok, any help would be appreciate. Thanks.

its SUPER GUSTY so for a beginer it really doesnt matter that much VEEERRRYYYY shallow you can walk for miles out and you MUST learn how to drift launch safely and properly. i really hope your instructor has taught you that aspect as its crucial at weyba.

if they havent might be worth getting a quicky lesson theyre somehow... i think my misses is keen to teach if you have own equipment shes probably the best instructor in australia... im going to say she is the best instructor in australia actually hahahaha

but yeah drift launch crucial stay the **** away from any trees and rocks and all that **** and walk out as far as you physically can which is miles. and if shes windy DO NOT take your new 12m switchblade youll be lofted into trees in no time. for your skill level with that big ass 142 board you got you want to see people your size on 10m kites. plenty of kooks theyre so theyll help you out but theres quite a few intricate tricks in the driftlaunch procedure that even those kids teaching for george dont have down pat and frankly is dangerous if you were to copy solo (theyre student can help them so not a issue but they really ought to be teaching there students how to do **** solo)

Yes mate, I'm at Marcoola Beach. I'll take up the offer on the lesson with the missus. I've got one more lesson at Golden Beach this week as an intro to my new kite. I'll PM you later in the week.

Boreen Point is much better if you're after a lake I reckon. Easier to setup for drift launching and more space. At either I'd take a rake with you to clear the twigs away from your launch area. The riskiest part of drift launching is getting your lines tangled in a twig and their is shedloads of them at both places.

.... the riskiest thing with drift launching is getting a line not close to the kite. this results in EVERY kites quick release function being completely DISABLED you cant even manually flag out the kite by just pulling 1 line in as the line knot close to the canopy means when you pull 1 line ALL lines are being pulled an equal distance.

dont even get me started on this **** hahahaha twigs least of your worries. currents wind twisting or turning your kite or just plain old being ****ing unlucky and getting a line knot near your canopy can happen. and youll know it when it does because there is nearly nothing you can do. even if your an instructor whose been teaching round the world for half a decade

but ive got a method which really reduces the tendency for a line knot to form.

Had a twig get caught in my lines while I was drift launching at Wyeba back in the day. Completely disable my flagging line on the 17m causing a fair bit of angst until thankfully the wind died down. Was pretty close to ditching the whole thing. So it the harmless looking twig can be just as risky as a knot.

The little beach at Boreen definately easier than Wyeba.
