I am from Townsville and land kite here a bit, but I have not heard or even knew about Lake Tinaroo. Is it dry at the moment? I doubt it with the rains we've had. But in Winter should be good, aye?
In terms of water kiting a lake, mate we've got heaps of potential here. Just pick a good wind day and judging by the maps of Tinaroo you're best bet would be when the winds are from W-NW. And it just so happens this weekend we're getting 15 knots W-NWesterlies! Plus there is a sand beach off Tinaroo itself, so close to shops!
The nearest wind station is either Tolga or Atherton...
www.windalert.com:443/spot/83386The website forecasts around 4 to 7 knots, but it has been known to be way under for the tropics (I am referring to stations inland near Townsville), so I am assuming of course. But you never know. Just take your largest kite!
