Hi all,

I'm thinking of heading out to Green island on Saturday (08/09/12) if anyone is interested. I've not been out there yet but I'm told there's no probs kiting on the high tide. Saturday has the afternoon high tide and the wind should be picking up also. So if there's any riding to be had on saturday then it will definitely be on the island.
Local's rates are $55 return on the ferry with last return trip at 16:30.
Get in touch if you feel like a little excursion for the day.

Kym. Pretty Keen. Looks Great. I have never been. A Million questions
How do you get there?
Where do you launch from?
Is there any beach there? Do I need booties?
Can you stand at all or is it deep water?
Big currents?
What do you take?
How do you get home?
I had a look on google earth and it looks like a great spot in any wind.
Whats the best wind?
JF

I'd be keen to get back out there with this new wind front coming this weekend and next week however it doesn't look like the tides are on our side. You really need to have a mid-high tide, I don't know the exact figures but probably at least 1.5m. Otherwise you're starting to hit rocks.
From my little expedition out there the other week I can tell you this.
The launch/land can be a little tricky if you're alone. I found the southern side of the island to be the best but there's only a couple of small patches of sand to launch depending on wind direction. It's definitely possible though.
Shoes/booties are a very good idea. I didn't notice any currents however the wind seemed to split as it hit the island which made it a little tricky to stay in position, however if it's strong enough that wont be a problem. Regarding kite sizes I would suggest not to go too small. You don't want to be fighting to cut up wind.
Aside from that I got a ferry for about $50. However I met a local out there who said you should be able to cut a deal for about $40.

All that said it's a great spot and most definitely worth the effort.
Take it easy.
Kym.
