Excited about the Kitepower demo day at Sandgate beach this Saturday the 12th.
Airrush van is coming along and i hope to see some of there goodies. It looks like a good one to try out there light wind gear but hoping the wind gods are nice to us.

You must be bigger than me cause a 12 would have sent me to the moon last week end apparently.

Hey Tom and the rest of you guys out there.

I am Jon and my shop 'Kitepower' is in Clontarf near Redcliffe. Sandgate and Brighton are the best beaches for learners and for more experianced kiters for miles around. We teach, ride and demo gear at both Saandgate and Brighton. There are NO safe beaches in Redcliffe for all of these activities, this is why we don't teach outside our store. IT IS Dangerous.

There are many kiting businesses that use these beaches and there is more than anough room for all of us.

We decide our location for teaching on the day depending on the wind direction. We are running demos at both beaches over the next two weekdend so everyone can see the new stuff.

We will be on the shore with the new stuff and it is up to you whether you enter the water or not. The beaches have been closed, on and off since the floods and it has allways been up to the induvidual to make their own decision.

Just heard from Jon that "someone" has complained to council and the harbour authority and as they have recieved a complaint they have advised Jon that the demo can not go ahead. Jon has permits to teach at this location, it is crazy that they dont allow a free demo to go ahead.

I have been on the road since November doing Kitesurf, Windsurf and Stand Up Paddle demos right around the country and this is the first time we have not been able to do a planned demo.

It is amazing that "someone" would bring kiting to the attention of the authorities in this manner and risk getting future demos being banned and denying kiters the opportunity to try a full range of gear.

So unfortunately we don't feel we can attend this demo and will head up to Caloundra tomorrow instead. Sorry to those that had looked forward to trying the latest Airush Kite and Starboard SUP gear.

the beach at sandgate is for everyone to use, just cause ur shop is across the road doesnt give you exclusive rights to the beach. lets the demos run free :)

Kitepower will still be at Sandgate today. You will be able to see some new gear but can not ride any of kitepowers gear. It would seem as if we did not have the right permit for the water.

However as allways many friends of Kitepower (Team riders) will be there with their own gear which they are often happy to let you try. So long as you can convince them you know what you are doing.

We will have a bbq on the go leter in the day also.

See you there and thanks to Tom and friends for helping us make sure we have all the I's dotted and T's crossed for next time.

Todays demo was a massive success and would not have been had it not been for our fantastic group of shop friends an team riders.

Gee Dave up until your post no reference to the club had been made,for a new club trying to stop the shops around themselves imploding I thought you of all people would pull your head in and let the locals have a vent ?

Sit down like men and sort your stuff out. The never ending whining about shops squabbling over Sandgate and Brighton is getting tedious.

Keep business off the beach and back in the shops is my philosophy.

What other sport pimps their products so hard at the beach??

The surf industry is very successful and you never see the shops pimping their products at the beach unless they pay to sponsor a tent at an event.

Commercial use of public space for product demonstrations is not included in most council permits for schools.

Build a bridge, get over it, stop squabbling and run your demo days from your shop.

Your infighting is even f54king up your club.

and from experience....

If you want to have a demo day, apply to council for a temporary permit like every other business or organisation has to.

If you do it the right way, and use the system to your advantage, you will succeed and other businesses cannot complain.

There is no such thing as a 'social day' if a business is promoting its product in an area designated as public space.

Even club days need a permit, and if a business wants to sponsor a club day, they also need a permit.

No point whining if you didn't do it the right way.

There's always antagonism between shops in your area posted here. (I used to kite there and many of your long term locals were taught at my school)

This thread is about shops blocking business at the beach.

My comments are universal and apply anywhere that shops want to own a beach.

My advice is also universal and my motives are good ones.

All I'm saying is if you do things the right way, no noses are put out.

The sport will be here long after some shops come and go.

is next weekends demo still on?

If you read my first comment and the reason i started the thread was because i was genuinely interested in the day as i wanted to see some of the Air rush gear that has been traveling around Australia since late last year and thought it was worth talking to others who where interested. No one wanted any of the things that followed but i think as a kiter in the area in question i have a right to be able to go to the beach and enjoy myself without any rubbish. I kited there today and had a good time but wish it could be like that every day. people have tried to sit down with the complainant from yesterday and sort it out like adults but had no luck so now it's time to let the powers that be do the job for us. Kiting is a popular sport and everyone has there own preferences when it comes to gear so there is no reason why all the shops in the area cant get along without hassle.

I am good friends with Jon at KP and do buy my gear there and also enjoy kiting. I dont see a problem with that. There is no beef with anyone as far as i am concerned just someone is putting in complaints to the council about kiters using the beach. I know who it is as do alot of people but the main issue of this thread was about going to try out new gear and YOU guys are making it worse by turning it into something else. Why the **** shouldnt i be able to make a post about a demo without it being turned into a circus.

Is Sandgate good to use now? My lesson was cancelled yesterday because the council signage is still up advising people not to contact water. Also why is a shop from another area running a demo opposite another shop? Seem very disrespectful to me. But I suppose the more the competition, the better it is for the consumer. I called up 4 shops in Brisbane and got the best deal Can't wait to get my brand new kite out!

I have been kiting at brighton for the past 5-6 years now ( the locals know who i am ) I'd just like to say it's so sad that this petty bulls#!t is getting so far outa hand. We are ALL kiters , and we ALL need to get along to grow our chosen sport. Without the shops we lose the personal service , advice and choice they offer. Without demo days we lose the chance to try before we buy , i'm sure nobody would buy a car without taking it for a test drive. Demo days give a great opportunity to test diffrent gear back to back on the same day same conditions. It was disapointing to hear that it was another kiter that may have made the complaint , that is the sort of petty crap the sport dosn't need , you sir should be ashamed of youself , will that person feel proud if council bans kiteboarding in the area. We don't need kite licenceing or registration. lets see a bit of common sence prevail. We are ALL responsable to promote the sport as a safe , social activaty. No one person owns the beach ,it's there for everybody to enjoy , lets keep it like that , where ever in this great country you may live. .........Good winds to all....... Grant S
