Good to see the sea breeze gods turned it on for us this arvo.
Dodge tide worked well at Parham again, acres of glass for hours

Enroute from Gawler around 3.30 wind was 0-5, but around 18kts on arrival.
Had too much fun and left it blowing 22-24 late evening.

That's pretty crappy luck Robert- I reakon you speed guys would have enjoyed it. Hope you're picking up soon.

Jim, great news! You looked pretty close to the wind last time I saw you out there. Were you on your 9m?

See you out there

Cheers

Yeah it was a great day. We even got some video footage.

This low dodge tide is the best for speed runs because it stays at the right level for a long time.
I even attempted a couple of runs, but need more wind to beat my PBs. However with the water being so glassy flat for miles and miles instead of doing the usual 10s and 500m runs I couldn't resist but to do a couple of nautical mile speed runs - you may have noticed me disappearing in the NW direction.

Had another session last night - You were looking good pneucube - cruising upwind like you had been doing it for years :)

I'm at the stage at the moment that I have learnt that choking the kite stalls everything and I am finally relaxing my arms.

How long do you guys usually ride downwind before edging upwind?

I am finding that I am edging upwind way to early and stripping off all of the power. Unfortunately it feels more natural to me to go upwind and I am constantly telling myself to point the board downwind :)

Not my advice, but advice given to me was to point board towards kite until achieved planing speed. But start edging crosswind/ upwind before speed starts to accelerate out of control. If you choke it, can flatten board and point more towards kite until planing again.

Good luck

Dont know if you should listen to this but I have the same problem of oversheeting the kite and stalling it, and what I have done is (opps) get around the problem is shorten the front lines and it brings the bar closer to you. There is a heap of range so you still oversheet it but I have found not as much.
Went out today at 4.45 just before the storm hit on the 16 and there was still not enough wind, then it turned nasty and off shore in a few minutes.
Hopefully tomorrow.

Pneucube, you should never shorten the lines on the kite beyond their normal adjustment. If you do that it changes the shape of the kite beyond what it was designed for when you fully release the bar with potentially unpredictable results (eg. when you release the bar it may become jumpy, unstable or even cave in and turn inside out).
It should suffice to push the bar out when you see the kite is about to stall.

If the bar seems too far you can pull on the depower trim adjustment strap - this will bring it down a bit. Also check that your harness is not riding up your chest - this is quite common - some people prefer to use a seat harness instead for that reason.
And last but not least check that you are using the right kite size for your weight and wind strength - 16m would be way too big for the average Parham conditions for most people.

Sorry Lang but no wind at Parham today (Wed 16/02/2011).

I think this topic was started last Sunday but its been going for a few days now.

PS.

I normally get my info by looking at the marine wind maps and I don't bother driving there unless the colour is blue (ie. at least 15-20knots or better). But I do often find when I get there that the wind is actually 5 knots stronger then predicted. Below is the map for today, the link is:
