Hi Tom,
Just to clarify mate, we CANNOT Kitesurf from Summerton to North of Henley Jetty for approximately 2km out to sea. This is a Civil Aviation Safely Authority (CASA) ban, therefore it will be a Federal Offense to breach this if you do. Believe it or not, kites DO actually show up on their radar.
HOWEVER... we CAN kitesurf between Gilmore Rd and Burbridge Rd, thanks to a longstanding deal brokered by SAKSA with CASA. This is a privilege that they have allowed SAKSA Ticketed members only so "poking the bear" as it were, is definitely not advisable.
If you are going to do a downwinder, may we suggest you start from Fort St (Grange) and go through to Bower Rd (Semaphore), not going past Bower Rd as it is already beginning to cause problems with the Port Adelaide Enfield Council. The council in the past have made it very clear that they do not permit kiters between Bower Rd and the Largs Sailing Club as it is too populated with swimmers. In return, they have given us Largs Bay to North Haven. This agreement gets reviewed every year and so we still run the risk of having that taken away from us.
If you have any queries further to what I've said here, you're welcome to email any questions to
[email protected] and either myself or Shaun will reply to you.
Thanks for asking the question mate. It's great to see people checking before riding!
Cheers,
Jordan
