interested to find a sunscreen that is 4 hrs water resistant and wont sting eyes, I have tried the most expensive with titles like water sports and cancer council written all over it etc but its even worse than the cheaper stuff, zinc is good but a hassle to get off, any recommendations appreciated.

if you search for "tame the sun" on google, you should find a list of local stockists.

+1 for the above...only issue with Island Tribe is getting it off. Stuff stays on forever plus is has a gummy feeling on your face, whereas others soak in this just sits on your skin. That aside, it works!

Invisible zinc 50+ works great, stays where you put it, wont run into your eyes and burn them.
Its slightly visible not completely invisible..
Get it a most shops or chemist

Best stuff is from Japan :D

Bought similar stuff here--it's more like milk than a cream or paste--but there's some kind of scent in it unlike the Japanese stuff...and that is what I believe makes your eyes sting.

Put it on with enough time to dry and soak into your skin... Doesn't stop the scented stuff stinging when you sweat though

For the face I use Surfmud, stays on really well. A similar local Aussie product is called Mojo Surf Zinc.

I use the Rip Curl sun screen on my face, it's the thickest sunscreen I know and that actually stays waterproof.

I've found if you cook any sunblock in a hot car it turns to a tube of eye stinging ya back, kinda like revenge of the sunblock.

+1 to Island Tribe.

Just use it for your face, and your regular sunscreen for any thing else. that way you will get good value out of it.

+1 for Surf Mud.

Another good barrier type is Vertra barrier stick, it's a titanium dioxide based stick and you can get a good flesh coloured one.
Any zinc cream will work.

I've tried the Island Tribe and it didn't work for me. And I didn't like the greasiness of it.

I've tried nearly every sunscreen you can get, all the cream based ones were useless for me for my face.
I don't need it for my arms or legs unless I'm out in the sun all day, but half an hour on the water and my face looks like a tomato!
Drove me nuts! I was burning through everything I tried.
It must be the glare factor. I can go for a 4hr bike ride without sunscreen and not burn at all.

And to get it off use baby wipes, or makeup wipes.
Just don't flush them down the loo, they're a major enviro problem for waste water treatment. Bin them.

I use the cancer council sports 50+ as a base coat and surf yogi zinc for the nose and lips, the best trick I have found is to put the sunscreen on in the car on the way there with the ac cranked that way the sunscreen has a real chance to set properly, if your face is already sweaty and you try put sunscreen on it will just run straight into your eyes

The Blue Power Ranger getup.

100% sunblock, 100% normal visibility, head protection, double eye protection from helmet visor - no reflected sun burn - no fogging no heat stroke no chemicals soaking into skin and I laugh when red faced sunburnt people covererd in zinc ask me... why do I wear a mask lol

1x gath hat
1x biker mask
1x big lense Fish eye polarised glasses (the extra Elton john size sits over mask.
1x dust mask filter ( gutted for glue on mouth breather..
1x old rashie cut and sewn to mask, to cover neck and tuck into wetsuit.

Warning !!!
Unless you like 'Waterboarding Torture' do not try "without" beather added... wet neoprene or cloth will Not let you Breath from your mouth.

+1 for invisible zinc. 50spf. Use it on my 3 year old son too. It's like paint to get on - but it stays and doesn't run.

Do not use banana boat spray on. Utter ****. Stings like an angry bee on meth and as effective as olive oil. (I forgot the usual cream and had to borrow some)

Fair call mate.
I was just trying to have a laugh, but didn't think of that side of things.
My apologies for being a turd. I'm sorry for your loss.

No harm no foul I hope...?

Grow a beard, wear a hat with ear guards, and then use Island tribe on cheeks, nose. Don't need to put sunscreen on my forehead this way. let hair grow long enough at back of neck to fill the gap between rashie and hat, job done.
I'd use about 1/6th teaspoon of Island tribe per session, half of it goes on the back of my hands as thats the only other place thats uncovered and getting direct exposure.
It is hard to get off unless you use soap, even then there seems to be an amount that comes back out of your skin after a good wash. Small price to pay for having so much fun though!

@ Plummet, I've got a can of that stuff, its good and handy, but stings my eyes like crazy.

Big beard, sunnies, surf hat, and hooded rash vest to protect my neck for me. Put sunscreen on my hands, feet, nose, lips and around eyes. Biggest issue is that there's a bit of a gap near the top of the brim, needs to be wider.

In my experience the whole "sunscreen in your eyes" can be largely avoided by two things:

1) wiping it out of your eyebrows - excess cream sits in there, and as soon as you get wet, it washes into your eyes

2) putting sunscreen on 10 minutes or more before (like the packet says ), rather than the last thing you do before heading out.

Hi Guys,

Being a retailer for many years, we have tried lots of sunscreens and there is a clear winner. Island Tribe Gel. Unbelievably good sunscreen. Doesn't come off in the water, doesn't sting the eyes and full protection from the sun. There is no better!

+1 Island Tribe Gel

Better though is ALoe Gater gel. In the USA they advertised 8hr protection. EBay it. It's unreal.
