Good kite, It has OK bottom end power but its main asset seems to be its quick enough to put in the right place at the right time.

This is cool cause it covers up my flying mistakes and keeps me planning.

The kite you saw may have been a 2007 Wipika MX proto. If it was a black one with orange Logos.

The NEW Original Series panels are specifically cut for good wearing and consistant performance in older kites.
Also has a different strut configuration, faster profiles n other cool stuff. Many other things are different but its all technical stuff. See www.newkiteboarding.com for the tech stuff. Theres a design forum on there too, If you have questions.

Demo them from at Choice kitesurfing, they are comfortable kites for the windiest conditions.

I had a ride of the 9 last Sunday up in Gero... there was a big front coming through and the wind was a bit patchy, but the lightest it got was about 20kn.

It took a couple of runs to get used to how quick the kite was, but once i had that sorted (the kite was patient with me haha), it was awesome fun to ride. Really light bar pressure, handled the gusty conditions really well, PLENTY of grunt. I was disappointed that I didn't get more time on the kite cause it started P*SSING with rain, and I had to drive back to perth

In a nutshell tho, the way the kite performed was great... I am really impressed with the 9 and can't wait for a day when it's nuking to get a demo on the 7. Might have to do a special run up to Gero when the sea breezes start to hit

saw a guy at the harbour on a 7m, you know who you are, thats right the bloke who makes the wind dissapear everytime he turn ups! stop it!

anyway, the kite looked pretty sick and all over the sky, only thing is bottom end doesn't seem fantastic(i was on a 8.5m at the time on a twin tip), geezer was on a surfboard, then again some people aren't fans of that. Would be keen for a go next time if the wind doesn't dissapear again!

Yeah, was the guys first time out on the kite and i have had my kite a year so can get the most out of it. Absolutely demo-ing anything i can get my hands on at the mo. I did notice the speed of the kite, looks super quick especially when heading down a wave.

Scored great surfing and 1 hour of kiting
Seabreeze is only just coming in was turning on for a short period in the arvo.

Anyway I used a 144 custom wave twinny Mutant sort of thing cause the tide was really low and I didnt want to wreck my surfie. I used 23m x 5 lines, double hooked waist harness, Black long arm springie and wore blue dick togs under this.If that info makes a difference... Was around 18.5 to 19 knts and 4m swell.

Im not really a fashion follower sort of dude and ride wave Twinnies and webbing board leashes when its 6 or 8 foot plus. Silly me got all excited saturday arvo and forgot to hook up my board leash, and left it at camp where I tied my dog. One large wave fell over on me and lost my board for 10 mins at the end of the session and it washed downwind to me just as the wind was dropping out.

The kite fell in the water between one of the larger sets and it took me 1 wave to relaunch. I blame the waves cause my lines went through them and it turned the kite back in the water. Little scary but the kite relaunched well considering there was very little wind in the wave troughs.

Down the line the kite sat very stable hooked and unhooked. There werent any surges of power and it allowed me to do fairly vertical top turns and stay close to the sucky pocket.

I should also add I rig my gear a bit differently for wave riding. There is an extra hook on my spreader bar that I short leash my safety leash too. When unhooked and stretching my arm out there is tension on the Neutralizer 5 line. The idea behind this is to help the kite sit back in the window and fly much better while riding off the wind unhooked. The kite pivots off the Neutralizer 5 line and is light to turn. Its great cause it allows you to open up your arms hold your balance to ride comfortably fast bottom turns and go hard n agressive down the line. All Original series kites come with this feature on the safety leash.

The ESP construction really stablizes the kite when the 5th has tension, the kite is totally predictable and the wing tips dont get lost and wander around without front line tension. No big deal but it was part of the design plan.

Launching and landing is no problem in this spot.
1)Simply rigged my kite down wind like normal,
2)Tied the Neutralizer 5 line to my board wedged in the sand.
3)Walked down and flipped the kite over into a U shape.
4)Ran up hooked my leash on and 5th line launched.
Super handy skill to have especially when needing to launch on a 5m wide cross shore beach. This 5th relaunch skill you should learn in the water first before doing it on the beach. Its learnt by just releasing to safety in the water. Leave it until it settles in a U position and learning how to relaunch it from there. The secret is reaching around 1m up the turning line and doing a big turn to start it relaunching.

This was the report of the 9m.
But,But the 7m is the kite for that spot in the normal wind. Spewing I couldnt use the 7m, but our camera woman was using it and I guess it was the right size for her.
9m was perfectly sized waveriding kite for me that day.

Yeh it seems the ideal board is large.
Actually I find smaller square boards harder to land tricks, Not that I land much
Longer board is less skatie and holds a line well, good for fast landing. Larger board combination also stays on top of the water longer and planes earlier. Great thing is the kites have massive amounts of stable top end depower, which also blends nicely with big boards.

The general observation is riders on larger boards are enjoying themsleves the most. Big boards jump bigger too.

The key to success is larger reliable boards. It will give you massive windrange

Performance
1. The kite is very quick through the window and turning although it does not have good the bottom (Which most people will complain about because they do not understand that the kite must be flown) but I believe that is good as the kite needs to be flown to generate lift and this is accomplished easily for two reasons the kite is very light and the foil is very efficient. I have great fun driving the kite easily in an ‘S’ fashion and the lift generated is excellent – does one want to be bored just holding the kite in one position or would you rather have fun driving the kite hard? The ability to drive the kite easily through the air means that when you are surfing and the kite is parked at 10 or 2 it is very easy to generate lift by driving the kite in any direction you wish to place. In addition on those light days when surfing and running down the face of the wave, the kite can be ‘parked’ in front of you and it just hangs there ready to fire up with one tug of the bar in any direction.
2. In ballistic conditions (used the 9 in 30-35knts) the kite works well and at no point did I feel uncomfortable in the gusts.
3. Down loop Jybe the power is smooth through the bar and the loop is a reasonable tight arc.
4. Kite looping easy to do as the kite is very quick and you don’t feel that incredible catapult effect.
5. Wing tips cup and bend, helps with down wind relaunches
6. 5th line is simple and free moving, Allows fast relaunches
7. Relaunch from LE down is easy just grab 1 side line and hold tension, the kite will pivot over and stand on the wing tip. Low skill needed
8. Relaunch from LE down facing the rider works too. The free siding front lines allow the LE to flex and kick itself off the water. Some skill needed.
9. Bar and turning pressure is soft, no chance of tendonitis RSI or tennis elbow. Its good for retaining your strength to do unhooked moves.
10. The depower loop is designed so you can connect the leash through the 5th line then the depower loop. Works well as a safer suicide leash.
11. Very simple depower loop action. Safety release is stiff and doesn’t release during normal riding but unloads when fully powered up.
12. Nice bar grip, doesn’t wear out the hands as fast as some more hard abrasive types.

It's a functional design with efficient aerodynamics..
Testing the others shortly.

I flew the 11 today only on the beach as I thought it wouldn't have enough power for me but in hind sight it probably would have been perfect bottom end conditions with a surf board [i only have the bindings atm].

Rigging up:
The build quality is very good, the lines and bar are very simple and effective, it reminds me of a Cat earth mover because of its black and yellow colour scheme. The one pump is appreciated and the provision for separate bladders present.
Comes with a 2L pump with steel shaft so you cant ask for a better pump with out batteries.
it doesnt look too flash, no eye catching graphics.

Launch:
a self launch with the kite 45deg to the wind and a bit of sand on the canopy was easy as it was quiet willing to take to the air.
the lines are clean and dont have much to get tangled on them selves with
the rounded shape lets it roll over easy enough

Handeling:
The kite was good for bare foot sand skiing doing fluid transitions between turns, a real wave kite.
The depower is pain less and not over stretched
the small chicken loop is a concern though, i personally hate them yet friends who have borrowed my old kites before have complained they have to hold the bar too far away.
even in the light wind i could let go of the bar and run up wind with the kite sitting at 45 for a nice amount of time

Landing:
I have a love of 5th line and today reminded me why, the self land was so easy, just sit the kite over on the edge, pull down hard and yank the 5th to get the kite facing down and into the wind.

Pack up:
a the bag requires the kite be folded 3 times for it to fit, there isn't a separate pocket for the bar and the pump doesnt fit properly in the pump pocket.
The one pump pipes are too small to let the air out quick enough so you have to unplug them for a second.

Conclusion:
I really liked this kite and hope to be able to test it in conditions that are strong enough for its potential to be realized. [it also looks promising for kiteloops and unhooked ]

[I will be at the down winder tomorrow with it, hopefully i can get my hands on a converse before then as well]
