Straight up I'm a huge fan of core kites and have posted many post about the good things but forums are meant to share info and experiences so here's a massive fault with there product.

In the past I've been critical of their safety systems,. Twist to release is bad at the best of times and I've had a few issues with this. But today I was teaching a mate and demoed the safety and it failed to release. Too much memory in the chicken loop to fold out. No major and put it down to light wind. But later in the day after an hour on the water I noticed the one side had released from the twist but was still held in place as the chicken loop had to much ridgity. The one side of the loop was free from the safety but was still in shape.

If you have a core bar maybe check it as it may be down to the plastic hardening??? Not sure but all I know is the safety is really hard to activate and shouldn't be.

Happy to post a video to prove if anyone has any questions.

If you drink from twist tops it's a natural action to release

I had a core bar a few years ago. The twist release came apart or released when I was in the air. I fell from the apex of a large jump and was extremely lucky not to be seriously injured. I kicked the board off on the way down but my arm hit it when i hit the water.

Thats a gnarly crash! No excuse for equipment failure. I wouldn't fly a core simply after seeing that. Imagine if you were jumping over a groin or pier ! Glad you walked away with just a bruise and a sik video to show!

Not ideal but he bottled it instead of riding it out and hanging off the bar until landing then flagging out, you never know what happened in the lead up, could of pulled the safety prior and not re set properly, something I've done in the past
Then ping

Perhaps you first need to:

A) Jump 20m
B) hang unhooked on your bar at this height
C) all of the above with gloves and numb fingers from the cold

Just saying....

Just to make it clear. That isn't me in the video. I just had a similar experience here in Perth. I kicked the board off when i had the bar ripped from my hands. The board span in front of me while i free fell in the air and my bingo wing smashed into it as we hit the water.

You'll notice firstly he is not paying attention to anyone else just his go pro angle...
Secondly they're both riding Cabrhina's so that speaks for itself too...

If they were somewhere in WA in the line up on the most obvious kite well things might have worked out differently for them..
Any suggestions?

I agree Gazuki. The kites are great, but the bar's safety system sucks balls.
I had an incident only the other day where my core kite fell back into the window with slack lines on shore with a beach wall down wind.
Went to release but as the lines were slack the whole safety system turned and it did not release instantly.
Now I regularly practice releasing the safety while kiting. I stayed calm grabbed the chicken loop with my other hand and then twisted just as it started to power through the window..... A close call.
And yes with a lighter rider the chicken loop may have been too stiff.
Never ever would this have happened on my other bar (nameless so I am not pimping). It punches out beautifully and is so easy to reset, even in the water.
Core have an excellent product but they really do need to seriously review their bar and lines.
If you are a new core owner: practice, practice, practice on the release it is really quirky.

Couldn't agree more, especially as their bars are one of the most expensive on the market.

A core bar cost 800+ clams or something stupid like that right?

off topic but having crossed lines a couple of times there seems to be a tendency for neither to release, I always release, ask questions later, reckon he might have saved himself a swim through kelp and $15 had he released earlier.
