yeah - typically the beach has a cross shore rip and sometime against the wind - not a good combo I would have thought but it does give you couple more knots of effective wind speed - thats if you still have the board with you. So on a self beach launch you still reckon attaching the leggy after launching the kite - thanks for the feedback!
If you are going to wear a leggy (I only do at locations with heavy current or shallow reef inside, when strapless on a surfboard) then yep definitely the last thing you do is put it on right at the waters edge and the first thing you take off when coming in, mine is usually off before I hit the beach.
If the board shoots through the lines above the bar you will be in all sorts of trouble so be sure you are familiar with releasing it quick.
