Thinking of selling my L2L board got a 1st and a 3rd last year on it in 2014 - board did it a tad over 23minutes even though I started 20 seconds late as I was avoiding a tangle - the board will cruise in open ocean all day at 26 plus knots. Just built an updated version - very similar speed so don't need 2x L2L boards. If you are interested call me Johnnokeys 0401 603 838

P.S Board will get you into top 10 mix easy ...

Ah, so it is all down to the board then. And here I thought there was some skill involved

Look, if you are the average rider like myself and want to enjoy the race. I would advise against using a twin tip for the following reasons.

1) Twin tips are rubbish heading downwind.

2) Who rides a twin tip flat? No one.... so try it for 20kms and see how you go.

3) Massive leg burn , - Never got leg burn on a surfboard strapped with quicker times.

4) Required to fly the kite high in order to ride flat.

5) You're not fast.

The only time I'd ride a twin tip is if I had the choice of a foil or a twin tip. I couldn't be seen dead riding one of them things.

#3 above....massive leg burn, in 22 minutes. Are you serious?

Massive leg burn in 3min if you push yourself. I think I was around 32min on the twin tip. I wasn't fast.

Red thumbs must be the foil crew.

Edit. It's an awesome event. Best of luck.

cant wait. The charge is on again on the Slalom boards with Tri-fins. I got a feeling the record will be broken again this year.

Regarding the DoT kiting regulations Info sheet above:

- I'm guessing we're in the "over 5 nautical miles" group - however, aside from the EPIRB are there any other race day exemptions?

i.e. Specifically do we all need to wear lifejackets? (Or because of the excellent safety planning on your behalf can we avoid this as per the EPIRBs?)

no still need a pfd and flares which i think tim will issue flares. You will need to source your own pfd and make sure it is rated (ie not an impact vest) .

Thank you to everyone who attended the annual draw at Kite Addiction this evening.

A total of 226 entries were received and if you secured a spot you will have received an email like the below. Congratulations!

Sadly, if you did not receive this email (check your junk / spam email) then at this time you have not been successful in securing a spot. Sorry.

However, stay tuned as a number of auction / charity spots will be made available in the coming days. Watch this space!

Email to successful RACERS:

Congratulations you have secured a spot in Australia's premier kite boarding race: The 2015 Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton. We received 226 applications for the 115 spots available, so now it is time to start your training for the 19km open ocean classic, now in its sixth year!

To confirm and activate your position it is important to now pay the entry fee of $165 by EFT/ direct bank transfer to the L2L race account as follows:

BSB 116 879. Account 446 908 793.

NB # 1: The $165 MUST be paid PROMPTLY in the next 10 days, BY COB FRIDAY 30 OCTOBER, this year there will be no reminders, follow up phone calls... If you miss the payment deadline your place will be allocated to one of the very keen kiters waiting in the wings for your spot!

NB # 2: If you have a sponsored spot (you know who you are) the entry fee is not payable.

You will receive emails with further details in the coming weeks with regards to the race and one week before race day a detailed race manual will be made available to download.Best Wishes,

Tim Turner
Race Director

Me too! Chances were around 30% for the guys with 200 guys going for 65 places. Need to make up for last years disaster on the start and finish lines!

Tim is really helping to promote women in the sport as all 20 who applied got a place. That's a good thing in my view as I'm trying to get my wife started!

Correct. 100% you will need a PFD (go see race sponsor, Kite Addiction, they have the PFDs in stock and a wetsuit, either a short, top or ideally a spring suit, IMO.

Yes, two flares will be supplied, as well as race lycra with a pocket too.

Ok... an early cat out of the bag, here's the design for this year's lycra! 100% made in France (at significant cost to the management) ... (!)

You read it here, first, on Seabreeze ...
