This isn't rocket science, but has any manufacturer made a double-cylinder pump for faster inflation ... for a kite?

But seriously, is there a multi-cylinder pump on the market?

This is one of my old SUP pumps. Just stuck a kite nozzle on the end and it pumps up my kite twice as fast as my old one

It's just the fact that the bigger surface area of the piston/s in the pump, you will have more flow BUT you won't get as much pressure. Force = pressure x area

On that basis then you would want a pump that is skinny (pressure=Force/area) smaller area = higher pressure, I always use the pin prick example, a pin prick has very high pressure because of small area.

Hence why proper bike pumps are tall and skinny to get 120psi up to 200 but using a bike pump to pump a kite would take forever!

Pumping up a kite is more about air volume than pressure so large air flow is more important, but I think inflatable SUPs would require more pressure than kites.

Bought this pump on ebay but would not have bought it if I had a chance to hold it in my hands and examine it first. Not worth $100 ($79 plus $20 shipping). It is listed on every website as 10" diameter pump - can't believe so many places reviewed it and nobody corrected this error. 10" is over 25 cm - the pump diameter is the same as any other kitsurfing pump (about 11 cm). It is just a bit taller, great, but why does it cost so much more? 15 cm longer aluminium rod and plastic pipe? That is probably $3 more in materials.

A stiffer hose might be a good idea compared to many flimsy hoses that kink and crack but the hose has a threaded end on the pump side. Need to rotate the hose 3-4 times to connect it to the body of pump - rather useless idea (given the hose is quite stiff), standard twist connector would be much better.

I cut off the end of the supplied leash (piece of rope with pathetic plastic clip) and tied to it the end of my old ozone pump elastic leash (now can stretch the leash slightly and put it over the pump handle to hold it together with the body of pump, not just a dangling piece of string that gets in the way). Supplied twist lock nozzle is slightly different than standard twist nozzles - it popped off a couple of times when I was pumping my kite as it was a bit loose compared to the standard twist connector.

Nozzles supplied loose in a fabric bag - used a piece of string to tie all the ones I needed for my kites to the end of hose (good that the nozzles at least have an eye to be tied to a string).

On the plus side:
It is taller so more comfortable to pump
There is a bit of extra volume, so you would pump your kites a bit faster (30% or so)
There is a small removable plug that makes the pump work in the downstroke only (easier to get good pressure towards the end of pumping)
Hopefully the pressure gauge built into handle is a reasonable quality and will last for a while (time will tell)


Overall, great idea to make a better than average pump but it needs improvement. It would not be hard to come up with a better pump for less money or much better pump for the same money (hope other suppliers should be on board soon).

I guess part of it is the suppliers are not really interested in selling a quality product that would last - stuff needs to break so we can be charged again for 'spare parts' or be forced to buy another one.

Other manufacturers are already on it for some time now. Looks the same different colours.

Have been using this for a while now, no issues yet.
If you're a shorter person then I think a regular pump is better as you end up only using half of the stroke, fully extended it is quite high.
It does pump the kite with less pumps due to the bigger stroke/volume.

No issues with the hose. The guage works fine and seems to be consistent but I only use it as a guide.

I like the pump and use it all the time.
My mate doesn't and uses a standard sized pump.
