Hello,
I'm travelling to Australia in July/August this year to Melbourne. I was there earlierthis year and in New Caledonia unfortunatly there was no wind there for kitesurfing... And I couldnt find many alternatives to New Caledonia, as I'm looking for something where it should be warm and good to really good chances of wind. I was thinking of going to New Caledonia again but I presume from my research there isnt much wind at all to the time period. Are there other destinations that are in proximty of Australia (Cook Island, Bali, it shouldnt be mor than 6-8hour flight from Mel if possible) or in Australia. It would also be good if the Kitebeach is connected with a Hotel (Starwood Hotel would be best..)
Would be thankful for some ideas.

Flight from Melbourne to Cairns return for ~$300. Then get a bus to Port Douglass.

Personally I don't think Bali / Lombok is a good kiting destination. There's other places in SE Asia and South Pacific, but I havent (for kiting) been so cant comment.

Bali is in its windy season in July . the wind is not consistent as in Aus . The rest of SE Asia is in off season with the exception of Banda aceh in northern indo.Watch out for sharia law if u go to Banda aceh!.

Bit more than 8 hours (more like 11), but flight Mel to Perth then from Perth to the Cocos Islands. Had sun and 10 - 12m wind all day every day when I was there in August a few years back with Zephyr Tours.

I know a bunch of people who went in July last year. They had 2 windy days out of 10. Expensive trip too.

Why don't you go on a trip with Australian kite Surfar! They can pick up from port Dougles, the wind is very consistent. Always Awsome food and a fun crowd! You will not be disappointed!

Hi Fizzik,

Yes- I can highly recommend Australian Kitesurfari, located approximately 3 hrs drive north of Port Douglas. The camp is only accessible by 4 wheel drive - so a real adventure trip travelling through rainforest and coastal dunes . I've been for going for the last 4 years and have always had amazing sessions up there. The camp takes a limited numbers of kiters at any time - no more 6-8 kiters usually. You will have consistent trade winds (averaging 20-25knts) from dawn until dusk, in uncrowded, pristine warm waters. You will be well looked after by Ant Hadley and his crew, while also experiencing a really remote and unique part of Australia. Check out the Australian Kitesurfari website for details:

Kitesurfari in Nothern QLD is definitely the place to go. I've been several times and always awesome. Everything is catered for: pick up in Cairns, plenty of food, super friendly people who run the place. Planning another trip in August when the trade winds will be blowing constantly :-)
