I just download one of waveslave's rants, put it on a USB stick, and plug that into the USB adaptor on my kite. The hot air blows it up in no time.

Some may say that this is still a form of pump, but hey, I like having air as the compressive component of my gear. It's free, infinitely durable, very lightweight, doesn't need to be transported, and environmentally friendly. Compare our leading edge and struts to the mast and battens of windsurfers: their compressive structures are expensive, prone to deterioration and breakage, even if carbon fibre they still weigh a few kg, are long and cumbersome to transport, and are made from toxic resins (as are our boards but they're more durable and use less of the stuff).

Air is still a good way to go, so on with the design innovations of how to get it in the kite ...

Lol great line
Well even as a passionate nonsense innovator, I see limited options for a no-pump.
Getting the air in always involves effort, which has to be put in by yourself or some sort of machinery. The most innovative way would prolly be a battery driven compressor, which gives you several more or less environmental friendly options to load up the battery:
- Solar panels.
- A windmill on the roof. If it is windy and you can't kite, you are still stoked as hell because the battery is loaded.
-Plug it onto your spinning bike at the gym, where energy is wasted anyways. After an hour of pedaling to techno music, motivated by the chick's as$ in front of you, the battery is good to pump up some 16m kites.

On a more serious note, one dude designed a non-inflatable with carbon sticks for LE and struts, but I haven't seen him doing kiteloops with that construction.

Don't remember, it was a French engineer (sarcastic people would assume an oxymoron) who posted his project on kiteforum.com
He was convinced that his design was superior to inflatables.
If I find the time, I'll find it for ya

Carbon sticks have been used for land kites for years. There is a little problem with water relaunch though.

Have often thought what the result would be with insulation foam (like around hot water pipes) but I guess its a weight / packing the kite up issue.

The other solution is to prevent bladders from becoming punctured by using a cloth with a tighter weave but then you are back to a weight issue again.

I hate LE bladders but can really see no alternative.

I've got one that I made myself. Got the middle out of a Volvo steering wheel and connected it to my inflate valve. Headbutt the steering wheel bit and the kite self inflates in about 0.05 seconds (which coincidentally is exactly how long it takes me to pull my boardies up over my wettie). It's not ready for the general market yet due to shortage of available steering wheels, but I'm working on a revised version that uses Beroccas and spit.

You can also head-butt the exhaust pipe
Then you use a six pack of diet coke, mix with 3 mentos (mint flavour, not tuti-fruity as it is too gay) and balance it on an ice cream cone.
Done
