Saw this sitting of Falcon Bay at lunch time, it hasn't moved since.
It has 2 big tugs in attendance, any thoughts to what it might be doing?
There is reef out there, but you wouldn't expect a vessel like that to get stuck these days with all the charts and navigation aids they've got now.

As you can tell by the quality of the pic it's several kilometres out, this is a heavily cropped 400mm lens shot.

Looks like it's started working.

can't make out what's on the end of the line, any thoughts?

And here's the 2nd tug, (if that's what it is?) it looks bigger than the one in the other pic and it's holding station about 4X further away.

OK I've had one theory put to me, "They're making an artificial reef", any takers for this one?

Dredging or dumping. You'll have to keep an eye and camera on what comes and goes, and compare draught heights pre/post docking to know.

Wouldnt it be easier to just sink something like an unwanted super tanker?

If it is stuck on the reef, I guess it could just lift itself off.

There has been mention in the budget of an artificial reef. However, I was led to believe that it was going to be closer to Halls Head?

Or it could just pull up the reef out of the way

Well the diagram shows it almost due west of Halls Head, but the closest point is around Falcon Bay

No wonder the government is going broke. What is the ROI on the reef projected to be? What does it do for the 99% of citizens who don't have a boat to go offshore fishing in?

Tugs Mate. It is way too small to be a PSV. Plus the back desk is rounded. That dredge is too small to be towed around by an AHTS.

From http://recfishwest.org.au/artificial-reefs/

In January of 2013 the first purpose-built artificial reef in Western Australia was unveiled by the Minister for Fisheries. The $2.38 million investment saw the establishment the State’s first artificial reef trial on the South West coast off Bunbury and Dunsborough, with an aim to increase habitat for key fish species. Royalties for Regions program funding and $520,000 from recreational licencing revenue enabled the artificial reef initiative to come to fruition..

South Australia has been using artificial reefs for many years with great success, often made from tyres....

There's certainly no shortage of old tyres, I wonder why they chose to make concrete ones.

cos the tyres breakdown and polute the water, was a great idea when proposed by somebody who needed to get rid of a few thousand tonnes of tyres though. is this going to affect your incredible' private' beach decrpit. would hate for it to be spioled in the public interest. it was an amazing spot to just sit and comtemplate the planet the one time I dropped in

It's 10kms out, to the WNW and the good swell here comes from the SW. It's not going to affect anything on this beach, apart perhaps from the extra tinny getting launched from the boat ramp.

I'll probably experience a flash-back to this ominous image. ^^^
