As in they had a sharp edge on the bottom. Or something. Anyway, it sounded really good. They'd often hit parts in the lake where the ice was perfectly clear and it felt like flying.
^ Pretty much, yeah. I tried a board with rails ( Like skate blades, but 5' long, one each side of the board). Back in the 80's. The control was much better on hard packed snow than sheer ice. It wouldn't grip on the ice, much like skiing. I think people are trying all kinds of homemade variations these days as there's not much on the market.
For me though, I'm content to wait for water and warmth. You can really rattle your brains falling on ice or snow, and you don't have the "downhill" element to cushion the effect.
